OBI agent,

The problem with the inline 5 is length, there's two extra cylinders of length over the S4's v6 and an extra cylinder over the 4.2 v8.

I don't know if there was room to steal between engine and bulkhead with the S5 but there very little to be gained at the front. It does seem odd to develop an engine with a very limited market.

The problem is it would *start* at $58k and go to $70k with options. Too much for too little. The TT-S falls into the same boat. From $45k and you get a little 265hp 2.0T? Puhleeze.

The TT-S should have a milder tuned version of the 2.5T for that kind of cheese, not a mildly hopped up version of the base engine.

Sorry for bringing this thread back up.

Yeh I do get your point on the V6 and inline 5....but....they could have fitted the Turbo I5 with minor modifications....!

After reading the specs of the Turbo I5, this engine would have been great for a S4. I'm sure this engine is harder to maintain then the SC V6 or else, why would they go two separate engines with almost the same hp or torque figures.

Anyway, if I would ever go with a B8 S4, I wouldn't be disappointed with that engine....
