I already love it. The car pulls much stronger as I can put down more power. And powerslides feel so different comparing to an open diff.

We didn't check the clearances as it wasn't necessary. It is direct fit. Clearances are important when assembling/rebuilding gearbox.

Yep, you're right. I'm also thinking of removing the remaining cats.

When you install a chunk you need to check the backlash and to center it using shims. Not a good idea to just pull the OEM differential and replace with Quaife. I strongly suggest that you contact Brett at Koala MS or Harold at HPAutowerkes and discuss your installation.

OK, and how does the centering works? Have you disassembled E92 diff yourself?
I'm sure everything is OK, as all parts are new... Problems usually appear, when diff is weared out, some parts are broken from previous use.. then you need to check everything in assemblance

Have you changed a diff yourself? If you have, you should've seen, that there's no way you can adjust something...

Thanks for the piece of advice, but my LSD was installed by people who had changed LSDs at least 50 times and I do believe that everything's OK. I watched the installation closely and I know it was impossible to adjust something. Unless you use a hammer and work hard trying to change the shape of parts.

Edo, whatkind of oil did u use with Quaife? I can't find the specs anywhere and Birds Auto UK seems to have their shop closed...

I was little disappointed yesterday when I noticed that the sealings provided with the Quaife unit where wrong ones, too small but hopefully I get the rights ones tomorrow! Also installed the AR DP's too thanks a lot for nice pictures!!

I used LSD oil. Don't remember the specifications. I'll tell you later. I couldn't find the specs of recommended oil aswell, but I found somewhere written that a regular oil could be used. Decided to go with a designed oil though.

Motul PA90 oil
As edo said, Quaife says that you can use regular gearbox oil, but I recommend to use LSD spec oil. Motul PA 90, BP Energear Limslip 90 or any other...

The only thing not good in a Torsen style diffs like the Quaife ATB is a LSD spec oil with friction modifiers specifically used in clutch plate style diffs............total no.no.
Quaifes don't have any clutch friction plates which wear over time but have helical gears which provide Automatic Torque Biasing to adjust drive load to the back wheels. They require no maintenance and should outlast the car.
Quaife highly recommend Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 75W/90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil but the Standard gear oil used by BMW in the open diffs is OK also.

Quaifes don't have any ...
Bla bla bla...
We also know how works this and that...
What's more, it's not fair to say that only one brand of oil (or any other product) is OK! There are dozens of LSD/Gear oil brands in the market, which are not so bad.

Going back to the topic, I can assure that oil we have filled up the diff will not damage/f*ck up Quaife differential Of course, if edo will ask, I'll change him the oil.. Anyway, I'm using this oil in my own car (with LSDs), many more guys I know are using this oil and none of them noticed anything bad.

Spark plugs

Time for some updates.

Not quite a performance mod, but still... Changed the spark plugs.

New plugs:

Firstly, the engine cover was removed:

All coils pulled out:

Tried to remove a spark plug, but it appeared that the spark plug socket we bought was too thick:

There was no chance to get a new, thinner one quickly, so we decided to make it thinner ourselves

An old spark plug removed:

All the plugs were removed and new ones installed.

I could feel the difference in performance right away.

FMIC

Next mod - Helix FMIC and M-tech front bumper (installed side skirts later, rear bumper still needs to be installed).

The new bumper:

Wheel removed - oil cooler:

Wheel arch panel removed:

Bumper removed:

Assembly underguard removed:

Stock IC removed:

Helix FMIC:

Comparison of intercoolers:

Looking for something

Helix IC almost installed:

Tried to install the IC with no trimming (manufacturers claim that no trimming is needed, one just has to adjust) for almost two hours, but there's no way the IC could fit well without trimming:

Finally, after 2 hours of adjusting Helix IC is installed:

Decided that it was enough and we needed to have a rest at 2 a.m.

The other day:

Time to install the M-tech bumper:

Grilles, fog lights installed:

Old air duct removed:

Some areas needed to be cut out in order to install new air ducts for brakes:

The working place:

Had to use the old OC air duct grille as there was no new one:

Holes to fix TPM sensor made:

Wheel arch panels installed:

Old vs new:

Looks great! Lots of mods all at once. Great writeup and pictures as well. If you are ever in the market for an exhaust system to compliment the rest of your mods, let me know.

I'll do that in some time. I'll post some vids of stock exhaust with catless DPs and with fully catless system.

OK, time for some updates as I abandoned this thread a bit.

This time - installation of the VK Motorwerks Oil Cooler.
All I can say - the installation was such a big PITA and I was really dissapointed with the OC, as A LOT of cutting and trimming was needed, some parts of the OC needed to be cut off because of manufacturing failures, the hoses were way too stiff (I even thought that it would be impossible to install them, but we somehow managed to curl them), the OC was loose and wasn't holding in the bracket. If I knew it, I would've gone with ar desing OC.
But I've bought it, it's installed and here are the pics.

The OC:

First of all the wheel had to be taken off:

Stock OC:

VK OC:

Hoses of the stock OC taken off:

Comparison of the coolers:

Cutting and trimming... LOTs of it:

PITA began... Adjusting, trimming, production failures, etc.

FAIL:

Production failure solved:

Putting on and securing the new hoses was another PITA...

More cutting:

Another FAIL:

VK OC installed:

The cuts:

More updates will come shortly.
