I wasn't aware of that, my fault. We'll have to see where things go! For now, I will certainly be focusing on the Procede because that's where I have the experience.

Some comments:

1. I use an HTC WM6 phone and wifi tends to be highly power taxing on the battery of the phone. Would you consider trying Bluetooth?
2. The iPhone is terrible with multitasking software. Any way you could 'lock' the software to dedicate the phone to just running itself?
3. It seems like you'll be using the same concept as Rev to communicate to the hardware. But their CANbus to Wifi adapter is expensive! I hope it is no where near that pricey.

1. Probably not. Wifi for a bunch of reasons. Just get the car charger, if you're going to keep it on your dash as a gauge it should be powered anyway!

2. I'm not sure what you mean. The iPhone can't multitask, at least not unless you're jailbroken. It will only run one app at a time.

3. A similar concept, yes. Again I don't want to make promises I can't keep but the plan is to make the whole setup as cheap as possible!

Hope that helps!

Dan

Great answers.

Regarding question 2, I'll give an example: let's say you're data logging and all of the sudden someone decides to call you. It would most likely close the app and bring the phone app up, correct? Unless you know how to disable the phone part without taking out the sim card (the only option I have found).

Ah, I see what you're saying. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. My gut reaction was to suggest "Airplane Mode" but that would, of course, disable wireless as well. I'll have to look into it...

I would love to help, but Alas! I am strictly a coin-operated machine.

This sounds great and I hope you make big, greasy gobs of $$$.

Well 63 "interested"s, I guess it's a go!
there is a JB3 box with a rs-232 db9 connector, which is used for the gauge... very easily you could tap into that.

and if you really REALLY wanna be fancy, you could add a bluetooth connection there, using the SPP profile to convert the bluetooth request to serial commands back and forth, and you can have it all done wirelessly!

the sky is the limit on how far you wanna go.

Yep...plan is to pair the phone to the unit!

Doing WM6 is a good idea..especially since it may be the easier task. Most people still don't have the iphone, at least until Verizon comes into the picture. Even though I don't have a tune, just trying to be logical...I would never switch to ATT reception just to get an iphone. I tried it...outside of nyc metro...where I travel only Verizon works.

If you add symbian, I'd be in, but then again, this product, if made, would be limited to your choices.

I just got the BT data tool and if you added a Bluetooth USB connector and used iPhone 3.0 as the reader based on what BT software does you'd have one hell of a tool.

Cant wait for the WM6 to be done, and luckely my Xperia can multitask =)
Would it be possible to get it to work using the usb-serial, or is wifi the only possible solution ?

//Christian (Waiting for my procede to come =) )

Unfortunately, no, I've been absolutely SWAMPED with work recently and probably will be for another week, then I can get to working on this. Just need to find the time.

Perhaps, but for starters it will be Procede only.
