Vince,
here is what I'm loking for in an exhaust: - no drone - no coffee can look mufflers (make it look like Eisenmann) - no slip joins, bolt on flanges only - sound more important than HP gains

sound is probably the most important aspect doesn't have to be titanium.. just has to sound exotic and have quad tips

Hey guys, Im new to the BMW world but have admired them for a while. I am also familiar with the BMW "tax". But what I dont get is how it is justified? For example: my previous vehicle was a 2006 dodge ram 2500 megacab diesel. It was putting down 550hp and 1100lbs of torque. The exhaust i was running was 6" in diameter, all stainless even the hangars, dual, single muffler, no drone, turbo back. We're talking like 15 feet of pipe here. And I paid $800 for it! So why is 6 feet of 2.5" with some mufflers so expensive? I dont mean to insult anyone, I just dont understand.

My biggest concerns are price, quality and a beefy but not obnoxious sound. I've found some good quality, nice sounding exhausts but even $1300-1400 is more than I'd want to spend on an exhaust system. To me it feels more like a "cosmetic" mod and not as much value for your dollar as other performance mods. I'd pass on the titanium though... weight savings are great but I can't stand that blued tip you always see on titanium exhausts. I don't think it fits with a BMW. Heck, it even looks cheesy on a Subaru. |

I wouldn't, even for the briefest of moments consider paying anything for that. With the best of the "loud" exhausts barely able to claim 10-15hp, the idea of paying for an exhaust that sounds just like stock but adds horsepower that's really not going to be noticeable is crazy. As a general rule, quiet=restrictive and even if they could get 8-10hp out of it, it wouldn't even be felt by the most sensitive of "butt-dynos". And you still get the bonus of potential warranty hassles. I certainly don't want loud or obnoxious but the sedan's subdued tone is not very exciting, and visually the small, matte finish tips aren't either. |

DYNO proven gains! (same car tested b4 and after) Low Low price (800) is good.. a low burbbley/ throaty sound (glug glug glug AKA v8!) SINGLE 3- 3.5 inch full length split at rear to save weight.. customizable like another poster said Pick- your- part- modularity and cheap.. under 900

The LAST thing I'm going to do is drop $1000+ on an exhaust.. I work with a fab shop daily and these metals are NOT exotic. Sure, give credit where credit is due with regards to design, but most manufacturers are seriously limiting their sales potential by charging such ridiculous prices.
A well rounded exhaust like bastuck, or something similar, priced reasonably, would yeild high sales. |
