My brief 750i review:

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...0i-409134.html

Guess which one is me...

Hotcoupe - sorry but if I liked you' I'd bother scanning the docs but I don't so I'm not bothering. You'll have to make do with the reviewlet.

Funny this - I have often read about and spoken to people who prefer the SE over the M Sport for general driving on real life roads - which is what most of us do. Not many of us spend every day on a racetrack. Yet the score is currently:

SE:

M Sport:

Best I don't offer to do any political campaigning.

Ah not so much a review direct for the Independent, but a comment on the website from 2006, thanks anyway

I once made a comment on the Telegraph website (can't remember what it was about now), but I did'nt make a point of telling everyone about it, hey ho.

I'm deeply wounded that you have taken a dislike to me,I'm going to struggle getting to sleep now

I see you are very popular over on Pistonheads too!

I bought an msport because:

1. The msport steering wheel is fatter smaller and nicer to use.
2. The msport gearstick is shorter, chunkier and nicer to use.
3. The wheels are fatter - which means more grip - and staggered which means more neutral handling.
4. The sports seats have whizzy electric side bolsters that hold you in place when you are 'pressing on'.
5. The black headlining is lovely and cozy.
6. The m-sport suspension holds the car flatter while cornering.

None of these things are about posing. They are about enjoying the driving experience.

Which leaves me confused as to why an SE without idrive would be somehow considered 'cooler'?
110% agree. Love the black headlining too.

He speaks the truth...

It ONLY applies to the 335d/i E92 though. All other E9x models have different suspension between the two variants.

I'm not sure people are necessary universally expressing preference for one of the other. I think the reality is that most are taking exception to the rather supercilious and dismissive tone of many of your posts, and are taking to to task about it.

I think some people may still not be clear though. Perhaps you need to explain again.

I know you weren't, I was mucking about.

I suggest we all go on mass test drives of M sport and SE variants.

Edit: Wonder what the S5 suspension is...........SE or M sport or somewhere in the middle.

Started reading the thread, got bored half way through and forgot what started it by the end.

The SE / MSport debate has been done before http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101104

I've said all that I am going to in that review of an SE against an MSport E91330d.

335diesel - are you really trying to annoy/irk all on here aswell as on pistonheads?

Or am I missing something?

I think we've concluded that nobody is daft enough to suggest that the M-Sport is quicker than its equivalent SE model, although in fairness nobody said that it was - 335diesel seemed to get it into his head that was being suggested.

The M-Sport suspension may offer something to the discerning driver but in reality (on UK roads) it's a bit crashy. However, the stealthmobile has it so it's a good thing.

The M-Sport is simply styling and consequently some will like and some won't. However getting down to two specifics, I find it impossible to comprehend how the SE steering wheel can be preferred to the lovely, tactile M-Sport wheel or how the sports seats with the inflatable bolsters can be dismissed.

I've always had the M-Sport wheel, even on previous SEs that I've owned. I can't see the rim being too thick unless you have the hands of an 8 year-old.

Ultimately it's choice and opinion: if you want the ultimate stealthy load-lugger, you know what to spec. Just don't get sucked in by any daft marketing hype, OK?
