How easy is it to switch b.t maps? Say today you want to be at map 5 but tomorrow you want map 2?

1 Insert Key into ignition
2 Press start button (dont hold down & dont press on brake)
3 Hold down gas pedal for over 4 seconds (this puts JB3 into "listen" mode)
4 Press gas pedal to the floor (dont hold it down) for whatever map you want

Map 1 = 1 press of gas pedal
Map 2 = 2 press of gas pedal
Map 3 = 3 press of gas pedal

And so on..

Start car like usual.

If you count slowly you shouldn't have a problem. Its very intuitive once you are in the car and doing it, and not easy to miss a map. IF you are unsure you just start from the beginning and do it again.

Hard to mess up, unless you can't count to 5 (or 7).

Video how-to map switch, was from the 1.3 days, but the only thing that changed in the 1.4 that is not shown in the video is that you press the start/stop button before holding the gas pedal down for 4-5 seconds.

good detailed review!! the only problem I have with it that might question your integrity, is your comment on map 5 where you say " I laid two patches of rubber on the dry asphalt pavement as seen from the rear view mirror!"

you said you were "stock" other than the JB3.. so im curious.. how -at 60mph,
can you lay down 2 patches of rubber w/o an LSD?? especially with an AUTO?? a 430 hp 8banger, Vette with a manual AND an LSD cant even do that..
please explain..??

Theres 2 functions to DTC. press and it will allow 30%, press and hold and it will allow 70% (burn outs etc). So it is possible.

Stock, without a LSD you can leave 2 tires marks down.. Its when you take a turn a LSD really comes into play.(one tire will spin) not in a straight line.

Fair enough.

Let's do this...if anyone else can collaborate my claim that one can lay two patches on asphalt at 60-65 mph using Map 5 on a stock 335i, please chime in.

If nobody can back me up, I will video tape it this weekend and post it. I need to wait for the weekend, as it is dark by the time I get out of work on the weekdays.

Keep in mind that the two lines are due to the soft compound of the RFT's. We are not talking about smoking the tires at that speed, just leaving visible dark lines on the pavement.

yes that would be great! not to mention fun... I want to buy one of these JB3's
and be able to have the power to do that (not that i would on a regular basis) as my current setup cant even come CLOSE!!

I can spin my tires at 40mph in second gear in m AT no problem on this slippery street by my house every single time! On other streets i cant get them to break loose for nothing. So it is going to be surface dependent.

With cooler weather for the tires to have less grip, and with tires that have no thread left, with more mods, i can def sping at 60mph on this road easily.

As for tracks being left, i never looked back to see.. so not sure on that.

But weather (colder for less grip), surface type, mods, and tire condition will factor in.

My freinds C63 can spin at 70mph on his bald tires in 40*F weater on this same slippery road i speak of lol.

you're going into micro details.. that wouldn't matter that much..
he's claiming 60- 65 mph ish, leaving visible tracks at (i'm assuming safe, highway conditions)??

That really what it comes down to, the details.

I have yet to be on a highway in my car, Map 7 no other mods on the car at the moment, in dry conditions with decent tires and a good surface to spin my tires at even 40mph.

its much easier to spin at much lower speeds of course
all im asking is spinning at 60-65ish with marks as stated... auto, stock.
its really not that complicated..

Exclamation

OP..
Post resurrection right here...
I want to get one!!
But
Is it safe? I mean. I'm not much of a DIY person other than the typical bolt-on mods and oil change.

- I have stock
- I already have around 47,000miles on the car
- I use 91 octane pump gas
- AT transmission
- Outside Temp probably goes up to 120F during summer.

With the above info, what map is suggested?

So, does anyone have any insights

Map 3.

www.burgertuning.com/support for the directions on how to install.

After removal of the ECU cover, its a matter of unplugging and plugging in the Jb3 according to the instructions.

With 93 octane you would have been able to run map 5. Got to love Cali though HA

Take it from me I was scared to start working on my car, thinking I would mess something up. I did the install of the JB3 and DCI in less than 30 minutes. Unbelievably simple just follow each instruction in the guide and it is really a breeze.

I installed mine two days ago and everyday feels faster took it up to Tampa on Map 5 getting from 80 to 110 still felt it pull hard. Had some WOT runs from 0-90 in some back streets without traction had my boy shitting his pants. Really pulls hard did some take offs 1500 to 2000 rpms before launch seemed to stick the best. 3500 i was spinning for a couple seconds pretty awesome tho!

Awesome MOD great quality and great customer service all around. Don't think about it anymore and get it I can guarantee you will LOVE it. Get the intake too sounds AMAZING, you can hear the blowoff and intake of air pretty good, puts a smile on my face everytime

Thanks for the insights.. Saw the video and it looked way easier than when I installed injen intakes..
My only concern is if it will "F" up the engine or something.. If not.. I'm down for it.. Pretty tempting.. What are the cons?

Ya the install is pretty straight forward and you just have to be aware that you need to make sure when you plug the harness connectors back into the ECU that they are centered right and you actually hear the those sliding locks snap in and get seated right. If you dont you may get a light or the car may not start so you will have to unplug them and make sure you get it centered. It will be on map 3 at start up and just leave it there and go bang on it so it learns how to deal with the pain fast

there are thousands of JB cars out there and so far none have reported any longevity issues that I know of but even a stock car can poop out on you if you constantly beat its brains out
