ok. well I got my kit from a distributor for dirt cheap a few months ago but when i installed them I will get an error and then they will turn off after a few seconds, I tried to fix it with a relay harness but it did not work, it will do the same thing.


My kit is 10k. I just finish doing the install the same way you did and it works perfect. No error lights and no light flickering. Great write up.

So how great was it that $11 fixed a problem that you ans so many others on this forum have been struggling with for months!!

very sweet fix.

I have seen others on this forum do a similar fix but at that time I was to scare to mess up my kit until now that I said the hell with it and saw how easy you were able to do it.

hey, i'm a little confused as to where and how the capacitor is installed. can't really tell from the picture. does it go after the ballast, connecting the wires that go to the bulb?

so it would be harness from car to ballallast, ballast to capacitor> capacitor to bulb?

so you're essentially connecting the positive wire to the negative wire through the capacitor right before the bulb?

The capacitor is connected to the bulb harness.
In this picture, the end where the sodering iron is ..is the connection to the ballast. The other end (at the top of the picture) is the bulb. The capacitor is connected in between the bulb and end of the ballast connection.

I need to clarify the capacitor is NOT I repeat NOT connected to the bulb harness. It looks confusing because you see the bulb in the picture but it is only there because the bulb is fed through the rubber boot with all other wires. The connection for the bulb is to a seperate set of output wires from the ballast. The plug that is shown in the picture after the capacitor plugs into the ballast but the capacitor is between that plug and the oem BMW plug. Sequence goes as follows: OEM Bmw Plug , Capacitor , Plug to ballast , seperate ballast output bulb plugs. Hope this helps

OK,,,,maybe it's not as simple as I though. I'm glad you corrected me before I blew up my car!! lol

In the picture it looks like it's connected to the bulb harness...but it make sense that the capacitor is connected before it the ballast connection.

OP, is it possible to draw up a simple line diagram for us.

thanks! just got the capicitors and going to try it this weekend.

just read through a few posts and looks like i might still have problems with error codes. i have a 11/06 production e92.

tried the install tonight and here's how it went:

11/06 build e92
xentec branded ebay HID kit, 35w regular ballast, 3000K
4700uF capacitors from radio shack.

Installed and working with a slight flicker every few seconds with the car off. When i started the engine, it would throw an error code and turn off the fog light after about 30 seconds.

i asked my roommate for some help and he wired the capacitors in parallel and it WORKED! no flickers and no error codes. tested with car running in garage for 5 mins. i guess i need to find bigger capacitors and see if it works.

Sorry if I missed it, but how hot do these bulbs get? Any danger of melting anything inside the foglight housing? Oh, and what is this "kit" everyone is referring to? It seems to me that everything was bought separately, no?

the same question I asked in another thread when some guys installed the HID for the angel eyes ,, they said it's working fine while there is a lot of plastic housing ,, so I think if the angel eyes works on HID without any issues .. then the fog light will be fine as well ...

but maybe another members has different opinion ...

Glad to hear you got it figured out. I have heard for some reason the coupes (E92) have a little different issue but looks like you got it wrapped up. Enjoy those fogs I promise its addicting to have them on

I have seen no difference in temps. Right before I installed we had the front of the car painted and also replaced all 3 grilles and both foglight housing and the housings look just fine.

you mean you wired the capacitors on the positive only , or what do you mean by Parallel ( excuse my English =D ) , some info please cuz I'm going to have it installed next week on my E92 as well ...

we took 2 of the 4700uF capacitors and hooked the negative ends up together and the positive ends up together and then tapped each end to the positve and negative wires going from the car's harness into the HID ballast.

It worked for 5+ mins with no errors. with only 1 4700uF capacitor it threw an error code and turned off the light in under a minute.

i searched again on the forums and found a couple guys using 10000uF capacitors. gonna go out and look for them after work.

oh yeah, the 3000K were bright and yellow as hell.

HID bulbs actually run cooler than halogen bulbs.

Did you use 4700uf or 10000uf capacitors?
