i agree on this...it is no longer a status symbol. Some people just have different priorities and goals. I would rather enjoy my earnings for a bit (traveling) before getting settled in owning a house.

I am under 30 and do not know where I am mulling where I want to work... so I do not want to buy a house FFS. I do know that I would like to have a nice car when I can afford it and enjoy it. I am not stretching my budget at all and my parents don't even say anything about paying them rent or other expenses. It may not sound like much, but as a result, I do clean the house and do almost any errands i can do for them, such as groceries or taking our dogs to the vets.

My friends know what they want to do so they already plan or bought their condos/houses already. They do not drive nice cars as a result, but they don't care.

Me, I live in a condo and currnently paying a 30 year mortgage.
I own 4 cars (2010 335i, 2005 Stang GT, 1997 Corolla, 1983 380SL Benz).
Fortunately, I'm single, never married, nor have kids so I don't have a lot expenses other than providing for my own living expenses.
I have a good job and manage my money very well so I can afford to live a pretty comfortable lifestyle and enjoy driving my cars.
This isn't about being a free country...obviously, that goes without saying. The question is, is this prudent?

I bought my first house a couple of years ago at age 35. New construction, new neighborhood and all that in what was supposed to be a safe area that everyone said had never flooded in over 100 years. It was even listed as not being in a flood zone by FEMA. 9 months later Hurricane Ike comes along and floods not only my house but 95% of the town, something everyone said could never happen.

Luckily I couldn't see not buying flood insurance for $260 a year. I was not going to be one of those fools on TV proclaiming that mother nature is not going to defeat me and I will rebuild so I took the money and got the hell out. Back to apartment living for me. No worries, no headaches, no property taxes, no outrageous flood and windstorm and homeowners insurance premiums (post hurricane) and no stressing every hurricane season when a storm kicks up in the Gulf, waiting to see where it is going to make landfall. I figured I won't have the house so I will have a nice car instead and I am able to garage it at the apartments so no worries there.
Off topic...

You have an excellent looking E92. Can I ask how much your BMW performance suspension was installed? Looks sick with the 313s...very clean.

being prudent would be drinking your piss once a week to save money on water or coffee, but is it fun?!

All of these threads are always the same. If it's a thread about how girly AW is, everyone with AW defends how manly it is.

If it's a thread about how slow the 328 is, every 328 owner qualifies their reasoning for buying a 328 over a 335.

If it's a thread about leasing vs. buying, every cash buyer says how stupid it is to lease, and everyone who leases says how they want to hold on to their money and invest it.

I'm a house person, could never live with someone stomping above me, or sharing walls.

now you're making assumptions those with positive things to say in this thread are apartment dwellers, and those speaking on priorities are home owners. typical

You're assuming that I'm assuming, I assume.

I'm just saying how these threads ALWAYS unfold. This is you getting over it.

i think everyone is missing the OPs point here. what he's trying to say is, does it make sense to attract the pussy with your bimmer if you have to take her home to a trailer park. at least that's what i think that's what he meant.

This constitutes a good portion of BMW drivers in LA - including those who own 6 & 7 series, believe it or not.

But then again, you are judged more but what you wear and drive here than anywhere else I know of and medain home prices in good neighborhood is still above $1 mil. mark. So driving a nice car makes up for the lack of opportunity in home ownership to a great degree. Make sense? ....Probably not

I live in a house and I pretty much side people that live on an apartment.. Why? Because it's just BS that some people justify that having a house is a higher priority than other stuff..

It's a matter of choice you know.. As long as you don't remorse

Should this person be saving for a house or is it perfectly acceptable to be, let's say 30 or over, living in an apartment with an expensive car?
