I cant comment on the material that the pistons were made of. But the gt350 has a supercharged version of this engine. And I thought that the gt500 was getting a version of the cyote with a better supercharger. Although, I may be running on older info.

just came back from a test drive in an 10 gt w/ track prep...impressive for the price but let's just say I'll be keeping this car for a little longer
best part about it was that the chassis was communicative and stiff

What I'm getting at is that this car is not really cross shoppable w/ the likes of the m3 or even the 135i. I figured this would be an alternative to an e92 m3 on a budget. And perhaps it is on paper but just not up to euro standards in terms of driver involvement and feedback. If stats are all that mattered I would be in a Corvette, any c6 vette. but I will no doubt drive the 5.0 when available

the interiors ARE much better than Fords of old, and are at least as nice as BMWs of not too long ago. But only princesses that have paid $50k for an entry level car for their brand will notice (or should).

As for the retro thing, this is what is confusing...who is the target market? As for the CTS-V....way too cluttered with buttons and gauges. |

The same market that filled the streets with the last gen Camaro/Firechicken and all the Fox bodied Mustangs. In case you haven't noticed, they're doing quite well, and there really aren't any signs of it letting up any time soon. They don't aim for the stuck-up snob-geek market that BMW does. Whether or not they steal sales from BMW is one thing, but they don't have to aim at the BMW market to sell these new-gen musclecars without offering incentives or MSRP. The "clutter" issue is something that is subjective. I'd imagine you think the Panamera's interior is the most cluttered piece of machinery known to man then. I don't mind "cluttered" as long as it's done tastefully, and the placement of certain functions have to be somewhat intuitive. I find my 3er interior pretty bland, but it does the job just fine. |

Wow and just noticed, the dyno 2011 Mustang 5.0 (4th gear pull, 15% powertrain loss) Claimed horsepower: 412 hp @ 6500 rpm Claimed torque: 390 lb-ft @ 4250 rpm Actual horsepower: 435 hp 6500 rpm Actual torque: 404 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm they are being way too modest. cant wait to see track times.

Ford mustangs from 1989 to 1992 had forged pistons, 1993 mustangs had hyperuetectic pistons. The 5.0 HO motor was well built but asthmatic from the factory. A simple headswap/exhaust and cam nets you 80 horsepower on the 5.0L of old days.
This modern 5.0 is coming from the factory so optimized, the only way to get more power out of it is forced induction, it's not like 25 years ago. Oh and YOU BET the mustang boys will be boosting. I am still part of the mustang crowd I can tell you they are boost whores, they love it. I don't think ford will skimp out on rods and pistons and such, to turn a motor to 7k with 5 liters and make over 430 hp, thats M3 territory and the motor will need to be beef. I would imagine if hypereutectic pistons are used that AT LEAST forged rods would be used in conjunction. The older 3 valve 4.6 motors used sintered powdered rods and they folded over like tacos when they were boosted past 450 whp, and that is peanuts for the domestic crowd. I can't even imagine what the new cobra is going to do, probably will stay supercharged and be making 600 horse at the crank. Oh sh1t.

You don't have musclecar history over there. Too bad, really. Just don't try so hard to be smug and elitist, and it'll be all good.

Excuse the semi ghey commentary, found this on another site:
The second race looks to be fair. For those that don't know the S197 chassis was introduced in 2005, it's not the same 1979 Fairmont based platform the 2004s were. Yes they have a live axle, nonetheless Griggs does some amazing things with them. |

Not that it matters but funky editing or what?
The car he was in had the sunroof option and the videoed red car does not. That blue is nice and I usually no likey blues. Hate the phrase but the car needs a 2" drop immediately upon purchase IMO. |

There is a 500HP/700TQ version of the 5.0L Coyote (DI, ethanol injection, TT) named Miami that will be released in Australia only in 2013+ however it will not be a GT500 motor. Last edited by MHP; 04-05-2010 at 04:32 AM.. |
