Hi Chris, The v550 kit includes just the turbo kit hardware (turbo, dp, wastegate, injectors, etc,). It does not include the exhaust, xede, cams, cam gears, fuel pump, etc,. The v550 price assumes you already have that. If you are starting from a bone stock car, you will need everything mentioned above. And the total price is closer to $7000. And you'd probably want a clutch as well (another $1800). And installation for everything is another $1500 or so. So yes, building a 550hp evo will cost you around $10k. -shiv |

Hey Shiv, could you please put to rest the question of exactly when the xede will be available for order? Everyone here is kinda anxious about the whole thing and I think they need piece of mind or something

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...568#post462568 and never corrected anyone. I wouldn't call it a standalone ECU as it does not work all by itself. It works in conjunction with the stock ECU. To me that implies a piggy back type scenario where the Xede is working with stock ECU instead of replacing it like a stand alone ECU would. Either way, no matter what you call it, it's an awesome piece of work and I plan on getting it sometime in the near future for my 335 that I'll be picking up tomorrow.

Has anyone expressed any interest in a 100 octane tune. I mean if we can have two tunes other than a tune for the locally available octane what else could someone choose? I'll be part of the December Miami group, should I bring 5 gallons of 100 octane or would they have some at the dyno facility? |

FYI - the reason the XEDE piggyback unit cannot control or change the rev limiter is because these functions are hardset in the DME. There aren't any wires that you have to cut to get into the RPM system, it's "built-in". Nor can you undo any speed governors.
There's also another function called electronic throttle function (you can actually make it take off hard and pull instant, versus delayed). Sometimes manufacturers use this advantage to "make or kill power" (i.e. butt dyno). There are cars like Porsche (and BMW) that don't open at 100%... etc. There are other things here to take into account, but again, ALL DME functions. At which point, you might be thinking, why not just do everything through a DME? Again, just FYI. Certain parameters just NEED to be done via DME. JP@SpeedInnovation. P.S. This post was meant for informational purposes, not towards the pros and cons of a piggyback unit or DME functions. |
