He doesn't need schooling. Jus take it slow for the first months.

I was at a stoplight and shouted nice car to a teenager who was apparently cocky enough to say his e92 M3 would rape my japcrap Skyline. The 650hp "japcrap" made his bimmer look like a Prius. This is the typical teen, not the OP.

When you're on the forum, you know what the cars are capable of doing, I'm sure you're smart enough to handle the 335.

Where you from Okman, the name sounds familiar

If the forum can convince someone to spend $1000 on driving school rather than $1000 on performance parts, that person will end up a much better driver and much happier in the end. As someone who received a much too fast car when he was 17 and took way too big an advantage until that car died years later and he got his current car and spent some serious seat time at autoXs/tracks, I can honestly tell you the utility gained from a track weekend is much greater than that gained from a suspension or an intake or whatever when you are 17.

I'm glad he's getting a bimmer, another humble bimmer driver to balance out the rest of the cocky drivers out there.
Give him time. He will become an a$$hole like the rest of us that drive Bimmers.

Take whatever money you have saved for mods and put that towards a quality driving school.

Kw v2 or pss9/10
If you can afford it a LSD
cool carbon brake pads
ditch the run flats and contrary to what many members think I don't believe spending 5k on a 30-60k car makes any sense, nothing wrong with reps. I'm running vmr csl's and so are a ton of other people.
Get good tires with them
m3 front sway bar
jb3 and bt cable

or you can be like me and just make your car 400rwhp+ (118.54mph 6mt reccord on run flats) on stock everything and hold the land speed reccord for a n54.

Pm me if you have any questions.

OP- Dont listen to all the hate, your original post struck me as well thought out, curious and humble. I rarely post but have followed and read on this forum about 2-3 a week since i first bought my 335i in 2008. There is a wealth of knowledge and information on this site, however it is filled with pompous know-it-all assholes as well.

If i were you I would look into getting a nice fast car from a different brand that way you dont begin your driving career associated with a bunch of brand whoring, know better, self righteous dickheads that drive BMWs.

Give the OP a break you were all 17 once and would have been thrilled to death to be put in the same situation, dont act like you would have said "gee thanks pa, but I would rather be in debt"

Get the quote on insurance first..
No point buying a car, that no-one will touch you with.

If you can get a quote, then there is something seriously wrong in the world if they will give a new qualified driver 300 hp as a first car..

And you dad should be thinking the same thing.
Sorry to piss in the sugar bowl here, but 335´s will still be there is 10 years son

Okk... im pretty sure you missed my ENTIRE point. I completely agree that money spent on instruction/track time is much more valuable than money spent on parts. I am 17 and have already spent time at Skip Barber and on Laguna Seca and AutoXing. I could have spent the money on parts but i didnt and now i am a better driver. All i was saying is that most people here arnt like you and they havnt spent time on tracks and whatnot but still are giving the OP and other kids like us tough times.

What ever 6700rpm in 6th gear is, just a long strech of road.

True that. There is a 16 year old that auto-x's with us and drives a c6 z06, he usually beats the entire field by a second. The kid has been driving karts and jr dragsters forever. My jaw dropped when I saw who got out of the car the first time.

Congrats on the new 335i. Don't mess with any of the performance parts, you don't want to void your warranty and have to pay for repairs.

$485/m for a 335i lease? How much did you put down? Also, what's with the insane insurance.. $3K/yr? Just curious, not judging at all bro.

Insurance is beyond high for young people...but for justified reasons. Try to get a really high deductible (At least 2k)...that helped keep my rates low.

At least he's buying a 335....I've seen wayyyy too many D-Bags buying '06 330s and strutting around town like bosses
