Don't get me wrong...if it's something really important and I didn't answer the phone (my being on a plane is usually why that happens), they will text or email...and why they call me with what I deem to be "silly shit," I just tell them I need to call them back.

And on Topic: more purported trouble for Evo owners. ofc all first gen products will have issues though AND only those with troubled handsets will bother making a fuss. Personally, I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon in 1/2011 so hopefully there will be a cool new third gen 'droid device/first gen win 7/even daresay iPhone? released then. Definitely excited to see my options. |

I mention the PRC only because they play the law of big numbers; 1.4 billion people is a force with which to reckon...20 years from now, we'll all be speaking Mandarin and English will no longer be the dominant language of business, unless the Chinese let it continue to be so. (There's no doubt that in my observations, the top of the cream Chinese professionals find English useful in many ways that Mandarin is not. Consider, for example, that Mandarin doesn't really have an efficient way to describe action in the future.) That said, I really don't know why the US is so behind the times when it comes to cell phones...the plans cost more here, (mine is $79/month for unlimited talk, text and email) although the phones are cheaper. But the truth is you can buy a legit iPhone, or any other legit phone, abroad, especially in the PRC, for not meaningfully more than the price as you'd pay here with the subsidies. (Free phones excepted.) I think too, however, that the subsidies limit the variety of phones that are generally available over here...so it would not surprise me to learn that if a company wants to shut out its competitors, it will offer great discounts to the carrier and include language in the contract that makes it nigh impossible for the competitors, particularly, smaller ones, to get a foot in edgewise. As always, subsidies are terrible for consumers as well as being bad for analysts trying to develop accurate economic forecasts. My plan in the PRC with China Mobile ran me about 100 - 200 RMB ($15 - $28) per month, depending on how much talking/texting I did. My bill here is never even close to that low. The other nice thing is that you can buy a number that suits you...so if you want something lucky and easy to remember, you pay for it once, and it's yours forever, or you can pay nearly nothing for an unlucky number....of course, nobody will call you if you have a number with lots of 4s....LOL (JK) (But seriously, you can probably get 444-444-4444 for free -- the word for four also means die/death/dead.) Anyway, the N95, indeed the N9x series, and particularly the N97 mini, of phones are all quite good.

apparently new gripe out from owners saying their screens aren't as responsive or something. did the same tests, but mine seems to work perfectly fine.
any other EVO 4G owners out there with "early adopter" problems?

A friend of mine here at the office mentioned the same thing. Typical growing pains, for sure.

So you ordered from a local ATT brick and mortar store, and picked up on launch day? The link you posted to pre-order online ships the phone directly to you, and doesn't allow you to pick up the phone at a local store. So you are at the mercy of how good the shipping ends up being, and how soon your particular order gets processed. My experience with that varies greatly.

If I'm being honest, I don't recall if I ordered at the B&M or if I ordered online, so I could be mistaken in that respect, but I did receive my phone on launch day.
