no way I would leave a parked manual out of gear. Disaster waiting to happen.

Reading this thread makes me wonder if there is a funny thing that happens with CA & the 6MT. My battery died yesterday. I am pretty sure its because I turned off the engine, then hit the start button twice without my foot on the clutch (yes, not in gear!). That starts the ignition without actually starting the engine. I did that to send power to cigarette lighter to charge my phone When my phone call was over, I unplugged my phone & locked the car via CA. My battery was totally gone when I went back to my car a few hours later. Even though the "ignition" was on, the engine was not running. Does this sound like a plausible explaination? Anyone experience anything like this? Its a real scenario for those of us with CA & 6MT. If it did happen that way, then there is definitely a flaw with CA to not turn off those electronics when you leave the car.

Ouch, that sucks. I agree it sounds like locking the car didn't turn off the electronics. With CA, they are supposed to turn off when you lock. FWIW, I have not had that problem, but I do worry that my battery is getting drained by the "CD continues to play after car is shut off" issue. I think my issue plagues both CA and non-CA cars.

Thats happened to me once, about a week after I took delivery of the car. I had to hook jumper cables to my ML to get it going, surprisingly the 500amp portable jump starting thingy I bought from Canadian Tire couldn't do it. Ever since then I press the Start/Stop button twice before exiting the car, as opposed to pressing it once and relying on locking via CA to do that step.

That's true, yes. But I guess I'm more concerned about user error than equipment failure. Being an engineer, I have a lot more faith in the machine than the man. Just me tho.

It just seems strange to hear poor feedback on CA. Mine works great 99.9% of the time. I have only had to pull the handle twice a couple of times in over a month. I do nothing special, I can even stand away and have someone else open/lock the doors. Truely a great system imo.

It's not at all surprising that you can lock the car with the ignition on but the engine not running; this is the same as being able to lock the car with the engine running, since in both cases the important point is that the ignition is on. AFAIK the only time that locking will turn off all electronics is when the car is in "Radio Readiness" mode (or "Accessory" mode as everybody else calls it )

Not just for 6MT cars. This can be done in AT cars by pressing Start twice without pressing the brake. I'm sure you could then exit the car and lock it and the ignition would remain on.

Good feedback on the ignition. My only observation is that its easier to leave the electronics on with CA because you just "get up and leave"...

Also, to be clear, I am very impressed by Comfort Access. I view it as one of the best features on the 335 (with Bluetooth). CA will be on all of my future cars. It has operated flawlessly.

there is a few resons why this is happening..
1) the battery in the key fob is getting low
2) there is a sensor in the drivers side door handle it maybe screwing up
3) if you are near alot of steel bulidings the car can't read the right freq
