I went to a few games when it was here in 94 and i believe it was the best as far giving the US what it needed as far as soccer was concerned. Alot of people were not following at the time but based on revenue and excitement it was one of the best. Zidane helped Qatar land the bid. My preference, it would be better in the US vs Qatar but they must let other countries host first. I think the next time we host wont be until 2040's..

That was heart warming. I didn't know there were that many FIFA fans in America. Maybe next time when the competition heats up for hosting the world cup America will be better prepared to sell their story. Don't let some idiot actor fumble his script, and don't let some ex-president talk about himself when making the sales presentation.

for all the people bad mouthing Qatar.. it is an up and coming country with state of the art everything..

they don't have camels.. in fact, you'd find some of the nicest cars there... :/
it puts Dubai to shame... Well done country and it'll be a nice change of pace to have the World Cup somewhere new...

in the grand scheme of sports revenue, the US could give two shits about football (soccer). Not surprised at all that we didn't get it.

I don't have any doubts that Qatar will do an amazing job hosting the WC.

It's just wrong that a country who has never qualified to WC actually hosts the WC so they get automatic spot for first round.

That wont make a difference for anyone except other countries in the region who want to get in . I'm sure they would never get in the world cup if they wern't the hosts.

Look at how well SA did. It was a great story and I truly enjoyed watching Bafana Bafana play.

The only good game they played was against Mexico and they still didn't win! Their only win came against France, but then again France played like shit the whole tournament.

It's hard to tell now, usually its Saudi. In 2010 bahrain were favorites after that saudi defeat but you never know. They just played the gulf cup of nations and Kuwait won, so who knows

no shit they didn't. Playing good doesn't mean they are gonna win the entire thing. They surprised a lot of people by the way they played. They were the lowest ranked team too.

Sorry meant to say they didn't have a chance of making it to the second round.

True! now its very hard to decide.
I have very high hopes that Kuwait will win the asian cup Seeing how they play in the gulf cup, its very possible!

Never? Kuwait was a solid favourite from 1970-1998 in that region. During these years, Kuwait won 9 out of 14 gulf cups, from 1998-2010, they went downhill but now they're are back winning their 10th gulf cup out of 20 lol.
Kuwait just won west asia cup, the gulf cup, and soon asian cup

in contrast to dubai, it seems like qatar has a more sustainable model, plus they are also trying to create a regional education hub:

although some of the schools suck, cornell, CMU, gtown and northwestern aren't too shabby.
