I find this interesting, especially now I am doing so much work on the Golf. There really is nowhere left for me to go but into the realms of where Tony is here, though I doubt I have such understanding, interest or depth of resource as Tony does.
The thing that is really interesting is that with the Golf, I did go for the most power I could achieve with sensible mods, but I also had the guys fit a few safety/housekeeping features... effectively everything that you can get off the shelf.... Now, I can't help but feel that it's not enough. Matt |

Great write up Tony as is the norm
Couple of queries: Is it necessary to remove the entire front end to remove the engine? Quote:
When do you envisage the works to be completed? Are you worried that BMW may detect the remap? (Don't answer that one) |

Wow! Great stuff as usual Tony.
Your write-ups are always a treat to read. Can't wait to see the pics of it going back together - all shiny and gas flowed! |

Tony takes "not doing it by halves" to new levels!
A shame there have been such issues but great to see it's been/being sorted. Surely the most evil 335i in the country? |

Amazing and sad pics...
Thanks.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Tony.
why bother? You could have just saved some money having a de-coke done. Then just fit these on the front and back. |

Haha! Not at the moment it won't. I was at Birds yesterday (Monday 13th) and it is so weird - his car is mostly way up in the air, but with all the front end and engine strewn across Birds' pristine garage floor. It looks like it has thrown up its engine bay or something.
Great write up and pics Tony, this is a terrific thread. Mike. |

This is going to be one hell of a rebuild.
if only to have the time and money to do the same, that project car for me is a long way away

I thought it sounded a bit rough at the Staffs meet.... then we realised it was the ice-cream van..
Anyway, very interesting post (as ever) looking forward to the end result. Hope all goes well, Tony. (PS There's a LOT of 'stuff' on the interweb about carbonisation of DI petrol engine internals..)

You say that every time. Surely you must be getting used to it by now.
