In the US the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has developed a correcting calcuation formula such that it can be applied to all dynometer readings to create a "standard" power number that allows it to be compared to any other SAE corrected number. The SAE determined that the standard that all figures would be corrected to would be to an ideal 77 degrees, 29.23 in/hg., and 0 humidity. The Society considers the effects of temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure to be known and constant, thus allowing the comparison between dynos nationwide. Standard (STD) is a similar formula but it uses 29.92 in/hg and 68 degrees (the humidity is the same at 0). This formula produces higher hp and torque numbers than the SAE numbers and should only be used to compare to other Standard numbers. Lots of aftermarket companies like Standard because it gives better hp numbers, in researching this topic I found one car that made a supposed 11hp increase with Standard vs SAE. SAE=327hp Std.=338hp. This was on the same run with different correction factors applied. Actual is the actual power output made by the vehicle with all atmospheric conditions affecting the power readings either way. Actual power figures will be lower than the corrected numbers when the air pressure is lower than the corrected constants and higher when the air pressure is higher all other variables being equal. Raise the temperature above the constant and power will drop off, just as will having any humidity. Now crunch the numbers taking into account each of these variables and thier effects on each other and you will be as smart as the people down at DynoJet. In a nut shell you can compare SAE with SAE or Standard with Standard but none of them ever with each other and Actual numbers cannot even be compared to other Actual numbers unless done at the exact same time with the exact same conditions, which is impossible. Just something to consider when comparing your dyno sheets to others. |

So, the real question is your new PROcede-equipped 335i faster than your modded "World's fastest Audi B6 A4 Wagon?"

1) CEA 3: 330whp and 380wtq
2) Walked U : 330 rwhp and 370 wtq, 91 octane, everything else stock. Stock numbers 272 rwhp and 282 wtq 3) JonMartin : Stock = 274WHP ; 277WTQ Tuned : 320WHP ; 363WTQ 4) Ryan(E92):Stage 0 314hp 371tq 5) Longboarder: 327 RWHP, 365 RWTQ My car is a 6MT and had only 500 miles on it so I was really impressed with the results. I did 2 pulls and the results were identical so I was even more impressed with the consistency. Stock I pulled 271/280. I don't wan't to just echo what everyone else has said, but the car is absolutely unreal now. Not only is it incredibly fast, but possesses the characteristics of a turbo car. It has some lag in the higher gears (still not much), but you can now hear the turbo's spool until full boost...and upon deceleration there is a faint "blow-off" sound. Really incredible. I was frankly dissappointed with the car when I picked it up a week ago. I didn't get a chance to do a test drive before I bought it and with the hype I figured the power was going to be sufficient. Well the PROceed sure took care of that. "Feels" like and addition of 150 HP and 200 LB FT of TQ regardless of what the dyno says.

One more thing...Shiv can probably elaborate further on this point but I remember him mentioning that the peak torque figures for the LA days would fall around 10 LB FT lower given the dyno used. Something about the initial load settings. This wouldn't affect peak HP figures.

And speaking of needing your head back at all times, I actually caught traction in 1st gear during my test drive around Harman Motive and my neck snapped back so hard against the head rest that I think I reinjured it from a prior accident. Feels better now The PROceed cars definitely have "neck snapping torque". The car is no longer "deceptively fast". It is crazy fast...and raw...and viceral...and your senses come alive. Thanks, Shiv for bringing out the beast within.

That's funny. You are one heck of a brave man tuning the car with only 203 miles on it. Wow! I was impressed with your baseline dyno numbers on a car with just 203 miles too. They were equal too cars with lots more break in miles. Your new car is a manual too correct? I can't wait my time slot is noon today!!! Seems I'll be one of the few tuned cars with the steptronic tranny. I wish I could of done run or two against someone with a stock 6MT before the tune to see how the steps compare. Many think the steps will run equal if not a bit quicker due to the speed of the shifts. It'll be interesting to compare the PROcede'd autos to manuals. Seems the manuals are getting about 5 more HP and 5-10 TQ more to the wheels. Not that much more really. Look forward to meeting a couple of you guys there later. |

I can't speak from personal experience about this since I never had one, but, FWIW - I asked CEA_3 if he felt that his new PROcede-equipped 335i is faster than his "World's fastest B6 A4 Wagon (chipped, exhaust, coilovers, etc. which ran the 1/4 mi. in 12.63 sec.") and he said that it feels faster, but he'll be taking it to the track soon to find out.

It was nice meeting everybody at the dyno. Thank you for welcoming an outsider with an X3! It was really nice seeing your cars, and thank you for letting me preview iDrive.
I had a ton of questions about the install and other related topics. Shiv is one amazingly nice, bright, patient and kind gentleman. All of my dumb questions were answered without ever making me feel dumb. Thank you again everybody! It was nice meeting you. Now my wait for my 335i is even harder... |
