I am searching for the elusive N53 with 272bhp. My crock only has 250. Not sure whether worth taking up with BMW.

Indeed. Seemed to misfire slightly at top end, and cats smelt. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Yugo Zastava

Rolling road chap was saying the 130i usually gives 260-270. So not sure of upside to N53, as I reckon economy will deteriorate with performance. No doubt issue is coking of valves.

My friends 2007 325i coupe has been at a local bmw dealer for the last 9 weeks due to the engine light coming on. They replaced coils, injectors, plugs and some other bits and they say its fixed now. Bit of a joke really.

How can that take 9 weeks, was there an issue getting the parts?

Garage List
2009 335i  [8.90]
My 335i has/had three issues.

- HPFP kaputt, replaced at around 15.000 km
- power steering pump leaks oil, replaced at around 55.000 km
- car misfires and shakes currently, probably injectors that need replacement

All three defects are not uncommon, and the first and third are even typical for the N54 engine.

It is going to go back in to dealership. They will plug it in, claim that nothing is wrong, then we can discuss my theory of carbon build up.

Don't suppose you know where that thread was posted? Reason I ask is becuase rolling road chap reckon the N52 330 gave pretty much spot on quoted numbers

But the settings were not correct for the NA cars. You may have missed this bit.

Actually that's a good point we ran uncorrected for ALL the cars INCluding the NA ones.

So all the non Turbo cars, the 320 SI, 130i etc should ACTUALLY be getting slightly HIGHER figures.

AFAIK the wheels should just be putting down the raw power to the dyno and that should be measured. @ the wheels.

When you start adding in crank losses and FI or NA losses or gains the results just become of less value.
My understanding is that the operator gets a raw at the wheels number. This is then adjusted for atmospheric conditions, and then that number is multiplied by a transmission loss factor.

For comparison, when my NSX was standard, I got 285bhp flywheel/233 at the wheels at SRR and 257 on TDI's hub mounted dyno.

Went back in - they reckon the cats and exhaust are knackered and need replacing - no doubt due to the numerous misfires sending unburnt fuel their way.

My 330i has been pretty bulletproof. I avoided the N53 and went for the N52, more reliable thats for sure and less time fannying about arguing at dealers.

Mechanically nothing has been replaced, did have random power losses which was sorted by resetting all the adaptions...

Other than that, N52 good reliability.
