+1. Very hard for BMW to repeat this in all aspects.

70s: The 3.0CS, pre-1973. Excellent lines, beautiful interior, fantastic greenhouse.

80s: The E24 6-series. Beautiful elegant shape, surpassed only by the Porsche 928S4 of the period.

90s: The E38 7-series. The perfect clean, understated luxury sedan.

00s: The E86 Z4 coupe - far and away the most successful Bangle-era exterior design, and the interior has an engaging retro-minimalist look to it. Not as derivative as the Z8 or Z3, but a completely modern interpretation of a classic segment - the 2-seat sports car. The runner up would be the E92 - elegant flowing lines, luxurious but non-distracting interior, the car flows across the eye.
totally agree with these! also with the posts about the M1. The first time I saw one in person was when I picked up my E90 at the Performance Center and one was parked outside... simply stunning

I'm really surprised that the E38 isn't getting more love. IMO, it is nearly a perfectly designed sedan. It's elegant, balanced and beautiful from any angle.

That said, I can never definitively state which is the most beautiful car because beauty is so subjective.

If I were blindfolded and asked to point at a lot full of BMW's entire production history, I'd be hard-pressed to pick an ugly one.

Great thread! Lots of good ones here. Always been a fan of the '70s CSL! But E46 M3 CSL is my vote.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but.... is that a real car? Can it be purchased? That thing is incredible!!

I am asking because I was looking into the M1 but it is still only a concept car.. then coming across this picture of the M1 GT.... I WANT ONE!

507 as classic and Z4M Coupe as modern car

Tho 328 is really nice it's very very small in person, looks lil bit ridiculous on todays streets, while 507 is so elegant.

Not a fan of Z8, looks lil bit shallow from the outside, has a very nice interior tho.
