Former PC user, now a Mac guy. I think PCs are good if you just want something as cheap as possible or if you're looking for the absolute most speed for your dollar (I'm thinking "gamers"), but I don't care what version of Windows you compare to, OS X is simply less troublesome and more intuitive in most respects, and that's coming from someone with quite a bit of experience using Windows. IMO, the iMac makes a heck of a nice all-in-one desktop while the higher resolution screens, large multitouch trackpads, and tangibly high-quality construction of their laptops make them worth the premium they command (which is certainly no 100% increase over a truly comparable PC, fwiw).
I built my last PC which was fun and made sense back when I was into gaming, but these days my computer is used more for productivity and photo work, so a 15" Macbook Pro with hi-res anti-glare screen and the Core i7 processor was the answer for me, and it's treated me well so far. Btw, the iMac has an IPS display, but I'm quite sure none of Apple's current notebooks do, though it would be nice. They do look great none-the-less. Last edited by R608; 11-05-2011 at 06:52 PM.. |

Anyway... The base Macbook Pro 13" has a 500GB drive, not a 320GB. Does the $459 HP have digital audio I/O? 10Gbps thunderbolt port? Backlit keyboard? Bluetooth? 7-hour battery? Glass multi-touch trackpad? Dual-link DVI output? Unibody construction? Don't forget to add the cost of upgrading to Win7 Ultimate to the HP (which is comparable to the standard OSX included with all Macs) along with other software to give you the same capabilities you get with iLife. Now, the MBP has a lot of pro-level features that you might not care about. You might be perfectly happy with the $459 HP. At that price, it's essentially disposable, when it falls about in 2 years you can throw it away and get a new cheap laptop. The BMW 3 series also has a lot of features you might not care about, including aesthetics. You might be perfectly happy with a Honda Accord at half the price.

Although I have an iPhone, iPod, iTouch, and iPad, I still use a windows 7 PC.
I just know so much about windows I'm not willing to learn OS X. |

Look up resale on an MBP or heck look up a 2009 Mac mini, they are still going for $300-400 when they are only $599 new. Sure they are a bit more but its a good return on investment due to the much higher build quality and the fact that at 3 years old OSX will still perform like new without much work at all, my Windows machines can still preform great after 3 years but usually by then it has been reimaged, or severely worked on to keep it that way.

I will never buy a useless PC ever again.
I have a 6 year old iMac that performs better than the day I got it. Mac laptops - mileage varies but 3 years is generally the lifespan. I was so sick of buying a new PC computer every year because they just keep on failing. Macs implement technology and features that are actually useful. They're still not 100% compatible with all that is and can be done on a PC but certainly close enough. I love my last 7 years without: Blue Screen of Death Losing all my pictures, video, documents because the computer just stopped working A non intuitive operating system - come on, I have to press START to do anything? Something that always gives me a headache. At work they still use Windows XP because they think it's still the most stable operating system. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Macs are quality products, that have finally brought their base models down to more reasonable consumer pricing. They maintain their value, and they actually will work for a good 3-5 years, unlike others where you'll have to buy a new one every 6-12 months because your operating system just gets so damn slow. |

PC for sure.Partially for practical reasons and partially for psychological reasons.I bought Beta so I'm very sensitive to "format wars".Also,my two favorite applications...applications that I couldn't live without...are not available on Macs. And,Apple is a very chic, very politically correct brand. All the "beautiful people" have one.Being very *un* beautiful myself I don't gravitate to such things.
