The meets were getting out of hand anyways as the people going were getting more shady as it was opened to other car groups. Town officials wanted this to happen anyways and they were looking for a reason. Fights break out all over the place especially when it's gets hot and humid. This one incident should not have immediately close the event entirely. I don't buy it. I think it has to do with people living in that area complaining of the traffic and noise going through their neighborhood. That's the real reason IMO

Sounds partly true. It was originally a middle/upper class event with exotics, and tastefully modded cars. Then came the straight ricers which had no business there. Last summer I parked in the garage to go to the meet, and when I went back to my car it was packed with ricers and kids just being stupid. And I assume that same ricer crowd was making Route 106 very dangerous to drive on as they are the type to recklessly speed and weave.

Wasn't there an incident of somebody trying to key a lot of peoples cars one time?

More of people complaining then the fight which closed this down. There are alot of old folks that live there which are quick to make a call and complain about the noise and traffic. I am sure each thursday night ricers and even the BMW and exotic rev and race their cars through there. While the kids that started the fight was stupid, Can't just blame them as the community that live there didn't want this to continue

Not surprised, i went there the first night and i saw all these JDM cars right by lambos, rolls, etc... no offense but i went to see high end cars not hondas, and Glen cove was advertised all over the facebook to JDM.
IMO they wanted more publicity and they got it but it attracted the wrong people.

This is true. I saw two Lamborghinis racing toward the event as I was leaving one night.

Don't point fingers at the "ricers" because you regard them as "lower class." They're auto enthusiasts just the same, and the meets were held for the automotive community as a whole. Otherwise, they would've diverted the "lower end" cars to the garages, but that never happened.

In general they just created an environment where "anything goes". MAC would rev their lambo, blasting music in their Escalade. This is also what made it a great meet because it didn't have that "cops will shut it down anytime" vibe. It didn't help that the road leading to it was a nice empty stretch where cops cant really hide.

Maybe somebody can set something up for main street Huntington.

i still dont know the connection of ricers having to do anything with the 2 15 year old girls fighting over who had the most std's and who can take the biggest wang that got the meet closed. theres a difference between jdm or non exotic cars tastefully done up and ricers, who classified bmw's as exotics anyway

Every Friday night at Ceasars Bay there is a hug meet of different cars! Cops never shut it down ever...You should come check it out...It starts at 8 and ends at 11:30PM

Great alternative to the Glen Cove meet as its not strictly BMWs but every make is represented...Even old school muscle cars

The connection whether true or not is that the ricer crowd tends to be the younger immature crowd. If you look at most of the parking lot meets that always get shut down, it is mostly that crowd. Younger kids tend to do stupid things...ie. fight.

Keep in mind there is a difference between a ricer and a JDM enthusiast.

There's a difference between an enthusiast for any of the various car cultures (JDM, Euro, Domestics) and somebody (adult/kid) who comes in with the dbag attitude looking to start a fight.

It's THOSE people who fuck everything up, either by picking fights with people, doing burnouts in crowded places, etc

This.

The event went from class...to crass. It's nothing MAC could have prevented under any circumstance, as they provided equality and respect to everyone who came to attend without judgment. Don't you guys think it'd have been unethical for them to not let JDM guys in? They were all understanding that we're all of different backgrounds, yet all attending for the same reason...

However, all the JDM guys should be ashamed as they lived up to their notorious reputation and exterminated such a GOOD thing. Proceeds went to the town, businesses flourished with a huge population influx on a rather slow night....Starbucks would sell out of coffee for crying out loud!! Downtown Cafe was ALWAYS packed.

I had a premonition that everything would start going downhill as the 20% population of JDM skyrocketed to over 60% if not higher, with the parking lots having kids smoking weed, leaving garbage, and uncomfortably gather around peoples cars in huge conglomerates. It just wasn't heading in the right direction, and was inevitable. The crowd was becoming more and more 'hood' per se.

There was a % of JDM representing from the get-go, however it came with a crowd that understood how to behave when rubbing elbows with exotic owners who were respectful and affluent/established guys. There was really no better environment for respectful car guys. People drove out as far as northern Connecticut to attend a 'little' car show in LI.

Some types of people will unfortunately never understand the ramifications of their actions/behavior. RIP to the Glen Cove meets.....shame.

Something you guys should understand:
This event was started by a classic car group in Glen Cove.
That event died and Joe @ MAC saw an awesome opportunity to bring an event to the local community for publicity and commerce into Glen Cove.

The event was a huge success and sparked the Bimmerstock Show which raised thousands of dollars for Diabetes Research.

Anytime you have a good thing, it generally gets out of hand and due to the popularity of the Thursday show, Bimmerstock and the MAC following online, word of mouth spread like a wildfire in California. Unfortunately, word of mouth spreads to bad people too and this was the demise of the event. Glen Cove was not able to Police and support an event of this size.

I think I got the story pretty much spot on but Joe/Derek can correct me if there is bad info.

Bimmerstock will still be held in Glen Cove this September though!

Just to keep it short... The cancellation of the meet had nothing to do with the JDM crew. We were averaging almost 400 cars every Thursday night.
Bottom line, it was a "car meet" for all enthusiasts. The GCFD held the permit, ran the gate & collected $5.00 per car. We ran 32 successful weeks.
The City officials were unable to provide uniform police officers to provide crowd control. Some weeks their were thousands of people. The last night was the first week school was out. The city was flooded with local kids that obviously got out of hand. Both Derek & I have been asked by numerous businesses & many enthusiasts to bring it back. I will keep everyone posted on any further updates.

Here is the vid from the last meet:

Hopefully Glen Cove Municipal Gov't + PD realizes how A) remembers that it was for a VERY good cause (GCFD fundraiser), and B) realizes much of a cash cow the Thursday nites meet were
