This is seriously worrying! Im wondering if theyre just stealing parts to order that they know they can get hold of without setting the alarm off? Seems strange to take the air bag as a pre theft of complete vehicle. Ive not removed an airbag myself so not sure how easy it is to remove... unbelievable that the blind spots are so big.
WATCHDOG anybody? BMW need to accept some liability for these oversights? Is the factory system thatcham approved? Again condolences to the OP rich1068. Originally this looked to have been attacks against 'M' cars only.

That is disgusting Rich ...
What I find concerning is how fimilar and recent these break in's are, I mean the e90 has been around for awhile now yet it only seems to me more recently that this is all coming to light. I maybe interested in a group buy if this becomes popular and discount is offered. It's shocking how shite the factory alarm seems to be |

R T S U/ M LE are the feature codes. Ironically the 'S' is for SOFTWARE LOCK!

It amazes me, how on earth did BMW allow a car to go into production with a flawed alarm system... surely someone must have decided to test if the alarm actually worked in a real life situation?

Rich, I hope this gets sorted quickly and you get back to enjoying your car.
As mentioned earlier, if you are able to check how many keys are programmed to the car I'm sure it will put your mind at rest. Don't let these idiots spoil the enjoyment of your car any longer than they already have. |

If there is a programming upgrade then BMW should be looking to recall the e9x and e8x series. They had to do it years ago with the old 5/7 series with the 3.0l and 4.0l V8 engines that needed replacement engines! And the I'm sure I remember something to do with the e46 series that needed a steering coupling recall. I know a lot of manufacturers have to perform recalls however these ones I seem to remember vividly.

Can anyone confirm this? Looking at the many thread about this subject, I'm surprised no one has mentioned fitting supaglass to their windows. This will obviously stop/deter broken windows but not signal jammers. Right now, Ive got my eyes set on Supaglass a visit to Cookferrys and maybe this viper alarm, although I would want something to be done about the different alarm sounds it makes. Had it before, very embarrassing. |

Hi all,
I also enquired with Pentagan when having my windows tinted about the supaglas. I was told because my car is pillarless it's a waste of time and money. Because the glass hasnt got a metal frame surrounding the glass, it just pops out! So I didn't bother. I can't go into detail about what we do to the OBD port to protect my customers who have already had this done to their BMW. The less people that know, the harder it is. But rest assured all our installs are done to the highest standard and look almost 100% factory. We even order in the cloth harness tape from Germany, to match the original BMW wiring. This makes it harder to locate our wiring. We use a canbus module again special ordered in from outside the UK and downloaded with the latest BMW firmware. As this system almost piggy backs on to the cars canbus network it doesn't change anything in the car. The system or the install does not affect BMWs warranty. I've taken my 2011 M3 in to BMW many times and they know the viper alarm it's there! Siren tones can be changed to a simple 1 tone or the full 6 tone on day of installation. Arm and disarm beeps can be turned off to. So when you arm disarm the alarm you have the choice of a beep or factory no sound. |

Just curious as to what would happen if you take your car to a dealer for a software update. Would the update wipe-over the Viper firmware - then what?

I was chatting to my local dealer recently who said that someone's M3 got nicked this way. The guy went straight back to the dealer, bought another one and then when it arrived, had a full Viper alarm system fitted by another company but on the dealers forecourt! No mention of it affecting warranty at all.
