I am surprised you beat modded GTO's but I am sure the elevation has a lot to do with it. I have driven a procede 335i as well as a modded GTO. Exhaust, and intake and the GTO felt faster. The GTO is my cousins car but I think it felt faster because of the torque and the sound. It is very hard to launch the car with the skinny tires. The car wont even fir a 265 tire on the rear. Imagine trying to get 375-385 whp (which his dynoed at) on a 245 tire. There are 325i and xi with wider tires in the rear than that. GTO is a steal for the money and the interior looks way better than a mustang any most other muscle cars. If everyone here drove a GTO they would understand. The car is a BEAST trust me. I drive 335i just about everyday because I sell them so I have a good idea or the differences. The race is truly a drivers mainly because the GTO is hampered by tire width. My cousin has the 6.0 BTW with a corsa exhaust and it sounds sick.

Actually they're not "just cheap GMs." The GTOs were designed, and manufactured by Holden Motorsports out of Australia for Pontiac. Holden is a subsidary co. owned by GM. The only involvement GM had on this product was the body panels they changed over to make it a "Pontiac." And the LS2 engine.....which no one with half a brain will have ANYTHING bad to say about. Notice how the interior, fit and finish, and use of materials is FAR better than anything else out right now by GM?? It's cuz GM didn't design it.

Ditto, I'm probably going the rolling route, I'd prefer not to cut any metal off of the inner fenders. I'm planning on sending out the rear stock 18s to Weldcraft to have them widen them by 1", so I can run a 275 or possibly a 285 tire out back.

My Service Manager here just got an '04 GTO and his first words were do you think your 335 will outrun it?
I just had to smile and remind him that the last '04 I ran at the track here couldn't break into the 13's and I ran 13.8s, plus the LS1 f-bodies I have walked on the road (stock for stock). Both are great cars but I think the GTO is a little more unforgiving on the launch. |

gto's tend to run pretty poorly at the track, likely missing the driver mod

It's my understanding BMW helped design the suspension for the new GTO, though the bean counters tried to ruin it with cheap bushings. But that's a cheap fix.
My 05 GTO, when it was factory stock, ran a best of 13.4 at 105 mph at Firebird Raceway in the summer heat. It's an automatic. It now runs in the 10's at 133 mph with more left in it. Nothing like spinning the tires at 100 mph to get your attention! The reason I visit this board is I think the 335 turbo is one of the most significant cars BMW has produced in decades, besides the fact when I see one I can't help but stare. Since I have experience with twin turbos I try and share my limited knowledge when I can. |

2006 was the last year for production on that platform. Poor sales didn't cause the GTO to be discontinued, it was slated to end when monaro production ended down under.

Which kit are you running? Or is a custom set up? I'm contemplating going with the Gen-TTR set up from LS1Turbo. With the amount of power you're putting down I'm guessing either a built motor or some meth injection?

Also GM was going to be forced to redesign some of the interior due to safety standards for 2007. Probably won't see another GTO for a while either unless the Camaro suprises everyone in sales. Then expect to see the GTO along with some other V8 RWD goodness.

APS first design, which used better components (bb turbos, better oil return). The motor is all stock with the exception of a turbo specific cam grind. Meth is for partying with hookers, it's all fuel but at 11 psi I run 101 octane just to be safe. It runs fine on 91 at 9 psi. Go to ls1gto.com to get feedback on the gen-ttr kit. It uses smaller turbos than the regular gen-tt kit in order get fit properly without headlight interference. Research carefully. No one beats APS engineering. |

The GenTT kit uses KKR330 turbochargers, and the TTR set up used KKR380s up until now, they have just been revamped with bigger, better turbos. Each set up has their strengths an weakesses, it wouldn't be right to say one is BETTER than the other. Why do you think APS is better? If your argument is that they are away from the engine bay/heat....then one could also argue that they are in an area that is suceptable to water and road grime/dirt/ and debrit. There are plenty of GenTT car in Ausralia running 140+mph traps. Not trying to say the Gen-TT systems are better....just that each has it's strengths and weaknesses. |

As far as which is better engineered, that would be obvious to anyone who has seen both. And I'm not a fan of chinese knock off turbos. But to each his own. There may be plenty of GenTT cars in Australia running 140+mph traps, but no one has come even close to that in the U.S with those kits. Don't get caught in the sales hype and don't believe everything you hear. Sorry to the OP for the thread hijack. |
