I am filling mine out, today. I know I am asking for the second time, but do you folks think it's too late?

Shouldn't be too late. I think they just needed 7500+ orders by Jan 1 2015 to start the process. You should still be able to order one now. Just send them a check and if they never cash it then no harm done. They cashed mine in February so we'll see how long it takes to get them made, hopefully this year.

False just talked to them and the plates are assigned to the vehicle you used to purchase.

well mine are personal plates. and right now i can assign my plates to any car i own. of course DMV has crazy fees. but possible. since i have the personal white one on my car all i have to do is pickup plates put stickers on and install. Also the delay of the plates has been because of the new license law in ca. has kept the DMV too busy on that matter. so been pushed back until July or so for my personal plate. i have family and very close friends at DMV state level. well think they still my family and friends since i bug them constantly with this issue.

It's true with ONLY personalized plates, that they can be switched from car to car. You just need to pay fees and assign/pay for a new license plate on the previous vehicle. I know because not only do I have a personalized plate but I have Firefighter plates.

Does anyone know if these can still be ordered? or did they only accept the pre-orders? or are they still considered pre-orders? The website is not very specific.

I understand, thats how it works for personalized plates, which i had. But with these new plates they are shipping directly to the address of where the vehicle is registered according to https://www.facebook.com/CADMV/posts/10151570247448805. However you are probably right now that I read the official website, this Facebook person must not know what they are doing.

I just got my official notice in the mail from the CA DMV that my plates will be ready to "pick up" in the next 8 to 12 weeks.

Unfortunately, I will no longer be living in California by then

Silly question but do you know if you will be able to keep the same letter/number combination as your current plate? Or will they assign you a new number/letter sequence?

I'm always low-key nervous when I register a new car for fear of getting an undesirable sequence. The other day I was driving around and saw a car with 5FAP... That would be awful to get something like that. #firstworldproblems

Plates are random unless personal.
And I believe not too late but only the black plates would be available if it's possible

Did you guys order the random sequential numbered plates or a custom vanity plate?
