The zoomers sounded and looked best to me. I wish they made a kit for the e92. My brother has a set on his SRT8 and it sounds really good.

The eisenmann sounded just horid from inside the car.

Ya high flows should do it with a X pipe. Thats why SS did. But also SS has a different muffer than esienmann. So im not too sure.

Ill keep you guys updated tho about what happens. Fixing it tomorrow.

Werd. Thats just nuts how much change in the sound just by removing the primary cats.

I think I will be leaving mine on and just remove the secondary cats. Too much it wont yield as much power that way. Ah well, cant have everything.

Yup its a compromise. If your 335i is your daily driver dont do it, unless the sound doesnt bother you. Youd be suprised how much de cel pops I get too. I mean its cool, sounds like a real turbo car. But the rasp is ridiculous.

Made a 1.5k exhaust sound like shit basicly. LOL

My car isnt my DD but I cant stand the sound.

No cats no resonator. Both my pipes are fully divorced. Except for the H pipe thats on the eisenmann mufflers.

You still have your primary and 2ndary cat in with the stock X pipe.

Thanks for the study Sherwin! I feel like I learned a lot about the e90 335i exhaust by your endeavors.

I'm a little curious about your conclusion regarding primary cats. I think many people may end up without primary cats (with down pipes) but keep the secondary cats. I know Charlie says the downpipes (primary cat deleted) with stock exhaust sounds great. Have you heard that combo?

Now I'm wondering if the catless downpipes with a 2ndary cat-back exhaust would sound bad... maybe a Riss downpipes with borla. What do you think?

Thanks again Sherwin for posting all your findings!

Thanks man.

Anyways what I think is if you at least keep 1 set of cats on your car it shouldnt be raspy at all. You wont get de cel pops. (unless you want it)

1 set of cats + X pipe / resonator should keep you rasp free.

It all depends on your muffler / cat / resonator combo. Ive found that with my set up (no cats / no resonator) that you cant escape the rasp regardless of what mufflers you run.

Borla exhaust should be ok since I believe its only an axle back exhaust. So even if you delete the primary cat you still have your 2ndary cat / resonator.

There are mufflers you can get to lessen the rasp tho. But not get rid of all of it. I thikn the Borla XR-1 mufflers + a x pipe do a good job of keeping the rasp at bay until top end.

I liked the 4th one... I have no cats... I run Dual Borla XR-1's with a 2.5" turbo back... I like the sound, there is rasp between 2500-3000rpm but this is the sound of our inline six TT... I guess if you dont like the sound of the car then maybe you got the wrong car...

Theres a difference between having rasp from 2500-3000 rpms to have rasp at 2000 rpms - redline tho.

Plus if I remember correctly you run a X pipe also?

I would agree with you there if this was an E46 M3 since that car has a lot of rasp even bone stock, but I think that this car is different since there are many exhaust combinations that you can run without introducing any rasp into the exhaust sound. It doesn't mean that you bought the wrong car, it just means that you should leave the cats on if it sounds like crap without them. I think that a set of resonators will really help to improve his exhaust sound though, and I think that they should offer resonated downpipes to start with instead of just straight pipes that usually result in a lot of rasp. The same thing happened on my brother's 350z. His exhaust sounded great with a full Y-pipe/fujitsubo exhaust with removed aftermarket resonator, and then he was cheap and bought straight pipes instead of going with resonated ones and the car is now a rasp machine from 3500rpm to redline. Hopefully this thread will grab the attention of the companies who are making catless downpipes and will encourage them to at least look into any resonated options that are out there.

Our tips are 90 MM with a rolled tip design. Not thin compared to the others...

I wonder how much would catted downpipes change the sound. Thanks for posting Walked U. This thread helps a lot to all of us who experiment with our exhaust options.

Yes i am running an x-pipe... The rasp only shows up between 2500-3000rpm like i said and then goes away and the car is just loud all the way too redline...

I get a lot of compliments on my exhaust everywhere i go and like you i have experimented with different piping (X-pipe & no X-pipe) and different mufflers and in the end im sticking with this set-up... We've probably spent as much money on our exhausts by now to equal a turbo upgrade.hahaha...

I think if i am going to change anything on the exhaust again i will add a resonator on each side and see how that sounds... For now though its great for setting off car alarms everywhere and pissing off the neighbors... Oh and of course scaring old people and young children.
