Man this sucks.. I have nav, bluetooth, voice command and bmw asist in my trunk i have a tcu 1.5 this does not have usb.. 03/08 build
the mulf2-high replaces the tcu 1.5 but then bmw assist wont work or nav since all the antenas plug into the tcu.. now i read somewhere that you can plug the the ulf2-hig and tcu in parallel so that why im asking for some pics of the module of an 08 with premimun, nav, assist and 6lf option.. thanks -- George |

It has nav/assist/voice/6LF. There are four FAKRA antenna sockets on the rear end and three of them are occupied. Let me know the part number of your unit and I will look it up. |

Ken, I have an e92 with premium + navi (and lots of other options), will the retrofit kit work in my car? Do I already have the High Charger/hands free electronic control? When I open my truck and take out the floor, I see a metal box on the right.
Thanks.

1. Your car must have been produced in 3/07 or later. I cannot tell from what you have written if that is the case. If it is from this date the Installation Instructions imply that it will work. 2. Let me know the part number on the metal box and I will see if I can tell from the ETK (German for EPC, electronic parts catalog) if it need changing or can remain. The part number is of the form 84.10.9.xxx.xxx and probably has a dash number at the end (eg -01). I suspect that it will have to be changed. The high charger/HF unit occupies the same space as the low charger/HF unit in the trunk so the fact that you have something there does not in itself help (it provides Bluetooth capability). It appears that the "high" unit has USB built-in whereas the "low" does not. Note that the Installation Instructions I published were from a European dealer. |

As far as I can tell from the ETK the 84109171348 unit is one of the standard (=low) Bluetooth boxes for the USA from 03/07 to 03/08 using CDMA. It seems that that box needs to be replaced with one that has USB. I asked a colleague to look at the wiring diagrams and he can find no reference to cars having two such boxes. |

All antennas as well as other telephone hardware are connected to the TCU. ULF-SBX-H interface box High With parallel installation, the ULF-SBX-H exclusively operates the optional extra 6FL ”USB audio port”. Telephone functions are not implemented in this control module. I don't think it necessarily has any relevance to the retrofit kit where the instructions clearly state that you scrap the existing box (if you have BT) and install a new one, whilst also adding in the new wires to the existing connector. |

Sorry but there is definitely only one box on the right-hand side of the trunk space and that has part number 84.10.9.181.276-01 on the label. It is not made by Harman-Becker, rather by Continental and the label states it is "MOST-GSM/US". The manufacturing date is 23-02-08. The rear end of the unit (i.e. to the back of the car) has four FAKRA connectors colored White/Blue/Black/Purple. The Blue connector is empty, the others occupied.
The front end of the box has a large multi-way connector, perhaps one or more additional small connectors. According to the ETK it is valid for cars from 03/08 and there is a remanufactured alternative 84.10.9.181.856. Your documents are dated 2006 and I can't help but think they relate to an interim USB solution and nowadays everything is in one box. And the retrofit kit relates to one box too, albeit a replacement box for cars with Bluetooth. |

My car was built in 11/06. What is preventing the retrofit in my car?
All options in my car are Premium, comfort access, navi, sport, active cruise, active steering, pdc, heated seats, satelite radio, rear sunshade.

Whilst it is nearly always technically possible to retrofit anything, in this case the cost would seem to be prohibitive, even if one could get the detailed information. That is what has been surmised. However, the only pre-condition actually listed in the Installation Instructions is that you have to have Radio Level 2 or later. Whether that coincides with 03/07 I have no idea. I will try to find out when I am in Europe next week. |

The good news (for me) is that the wires going into the lower box seem to be exactly the same colors as the bunch of spare cables sitting in the back of my X5 (to which I want to add 6FL). |

I just purchased a 2008 328i from BMW of San Diego. I got a great deal for buying one off the lot and didn't realize that about the only option missing was the USB port. I really wanted that feature and it was on the one I first test drove.
I found this great thread sent my dealer the pdf with the part numbers etc. After a couple of phone calls to BMW NA the service manager told me that they were European Part numbers and they could not be ordered in the US. He said they were told a US retrofit kit was in the works and would be out in the next few weeks. Not sure if this helps. I'll let you know more as I find out because I really want this installed.. |
