I was looking around and found a egr delete on ebay
http://m.ebay.com/itm/171360075962?nav=SEARCH
Right now I only have block off plates installed, I am interested in adding this part as well, as I have read the plunger has an approx flow impingement of 37%, not sure how accurate this is but seems plausible. Surely less restriction would be better in any case I would think.
Does any one know if this will fit in the us model, or if there is another one availible that would? If not I will fab one up when I get the time.

Ive been seriously considering pulling the EGR off also (and leaving it connected). I cant see what you linked because the link is broken, but I believe the delete used on UK cars will work. We would need to plug the vacuum port that they put in those though. The plunger is very much a flow restriction, big shaft right through the center of the air stream where it does the most damage. Not sure what kind of gains there would be though

Has anyone weighed our US EGR piece? Would be curious to know the weight penalty of leaving it hanging. Also curious if anyone has taken one apart to see if you could just use the shaft section for the position feedback and cut off the rest of the material ...

I read quicker spools, and I would think for those of us running meth there would be better atomistion, and no potental beading on plunge

Now the question is where to get a used EGR.

Ive held it on its own but I wasnt really paying attention to the weight. For the valve alone, maybe 1lb? Would be very surprised if it was over 2lb.

Maybe its time for me to ask my dealer mechanic buddy to put a warranty replacement EGR on the side like he did before for the EGR cooler. Last time, i paid him $25 for the cooler. He said they don't HAVE to send in the warranty part. hmmmm

That was a pretty good swag from your memory. My used EGR showed up today. About 2 1/4 lbs. And the valve/plunger obstruction seems to ~ 1/3 of the cross section. Yikes.

Think I'm going to modify this guy into a clean, unobstructed passage.

Most of the weight is in the electronic "motor".

Just joined the CBU club I think.

2011 with 46k kms. Just got p02d3

I have had the car for 6k of those Kms so can't comment on how it was treated before hand. Factory and CPO warranty to the rescue (I hope).

I guess my catch can install will be on hold till I get this resolved.

Only BMW can really tell you if its build up, they have to take a close look inside on the intake side. Know that its not protocol for them to suspect CBU for that specific code. They are going to target injector and/or DDE.

If it is, great. CPO will cover it and you'll have a clean engine.
However, for that code, most likely its the DDE...still a warranty item.

I'll take it in Monday morning and have a chat with the SA and see what I can get.

I did pick up a scope today so if they don't check it I will do it myself to see how bad it is.

Yeah its pretty incredible how blocked up it is. I think my next mod is going to be buying a delete pipe.

Modified the used EGR. First road trip went well. Further testing to commence.

Is the only job of the butterfly plate in the throttle to create vacuum for EGR?

Would removing it cause any issues for those who have EGR delete?

NO! It has another very important function. In the event of some kind of failure that causes engine oil to enter the intake system, it will stop a diesel runaway.

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!! Kbsilver is on the money here. You WANT to keep that valve in place. Remember, the more fuel a diesel is given the more it will rev regardless of where your foot is on the skinny pedal. Imagine a turbo seal blowing out and oil spray being sent into the intake tract. This will add additional fuel and create a 'runaway diesel' situation where without such a valve the car will accelerate taking you along with it.

shifting to neutral fixes the acceleration problem, but you dont want to be in that spot when its so easy to avoid anyway. I believe the BMW advanced diesel guide says it has a third purpose of anti-shudder on shut down.

And results in a blown engine! Remember a runaway is completely uncontrolled. You could rip out every wire in the engine compartment and it will not stop it. Only cutting off the air supply works.
