It's funny how we forget those things. I took Spanish in school and so did my sisters and we spoke pretty fluently and we would talk to each other and had lots of conversations in Spanish and now I only know a few words (mostly bad ones). Lol

I took typing in 9th grade HS -- thinking I would end up being an admin, at best...I still type like a terror...

Typing was my favorite class in high school - 24 girls, 3 guys.

I had little idea that this skill would become so useful with the increasing popularity of desktop computers.

The Model 28 teletypewriter was the standard miliary communications keyboard in the 1970s. The Mod 28 was a technical wonder -- with a myriad of moving parts -- and could be temperamental. But a well-adjusted machine was a wonder -- I have no idea what my typing speed was, but it was way up there at the limits of the machine.

The keyboard was all capital letters. The numbers were upper case QWERTY etc.

By the 1980s it began to disappear as new-fangled gear replaced it.

I suspect a few of the ex-military in this forum encountered the Mod 28.

I spent 3 years in Germany with the Army, one with Central Texas College, and one working for UPS. I was also conversationally fluent, although I know I made a lot of mistakes. But that was all pre-90's. I still know a lot of words, but forget trying to have a conversation. Ain't happenin'.

I used one of those! No amount of typing skills would help with those considering how far you had to press a key to make it work. It was much faster using just your two index fingers.

On a typical keyboard, yes -- very frustrating. But on a rare well-adjusted keyboard, I could type normally.

Let me add arroz con pollo to the menu with those meatballs, which is all that I retained so that I wouldn't starve to death if I was ever dropped in a Spanish-speaking country.

My only time in Mexico was a one-day port call during a cruise. VW used to sell a pickup truck there that my now-late best friend liked (chicken tax be damned), and not being a beach person I decided to take a taxi to the VW dealership planning to take pictures and pick up a brochure for him. The taxi drivers there are used to Americans wanting to be taken to the car rental places, and what was left of my high school Spanish had a hard time conveying that I wanted to go to a car "store" that was several miles away from the tourist areas. Long story short, the dealership was closed when I finally got there, and wasn't like an American dealership with a lot full of cars/trucks to peruse. So, no picture of a brand new truck and no brochure.

Back when I was in high school, my Spanish got our family back into the USA from a day-trip to Montreal with all of the signs in French.....

Dad used to say “pootie” quite a lot. I guess he used the word in place of
“golly” or “wow.” It was years later when I learned the real meaning. 🤣

I don't know the actors' names, but it's the Joker, Riddler, and Penguin from the 1960's Adam West "Batman" TV show.....

One was in the Rocky movies, one’s a famous impressionist/comedian, the other was an actor/singer.

You got it.

Never saw Cesar Romero in anything but Batman (that I can think of). Saw Burgess Meredith in many things, besides the Rocky pictures, “Magic” the movie, a few Twilight Zones and other things I can’t think of right now. Used to see Frank Gorshin on the Ed Sullivan Show; did a great Kirk Douglas impression.

Gorshin was in a Star Trek episode where he battled a foe through eternity. Both had faces that were half-black, half-white, but on opposite sides. Therein lay their hatred for each other. It was a Star Trek lesson on the senselessness of racism.

I remember the Frank Gorshin impressions of Kirk Douglas.

Burgess Meredith was in Rocky and Grumpy/Grumpier Old Men
