In some cases they have to update it, depending on what part they're replacing/adding.

I had my HPFP replaced, asked them directly not install the update. Guess what happened next?

Apparently they had to install the update to replace the HPFP, its mandatory for the part to be able to "integrate" into the system, or so I was told.

I don't think HPFP they need to update the software. My HPFP was changed 2 months back because of recall.
Last week when I went again something else, I was told they need to update the software since my service reminders were off. I asked them when was the last software upgrade done and they said NEVER. I have 10/06 build 335i

Not True ! I had my second HPFP replaced a few weeks ago and asked them not to update the software. The service manager said they were holding off on software updates until all the problems have been resolved. If I ever get updated to v29.2 I will leave the car at the dealer and walk away. BMW has fucked this one up big time.

Update - got car back from Regional TechS

Guys,
Just got back from picking up my car. Not only was there one regional tech there, but THREE. They must really know what a big deal this is now. Just as proof, I had them let me take a pic of the three of them standing in front of a 7er at the dealer.
Here you go:

Not joke - back from picking up car

So, as you may have gathered from my above post, things did not go swimmingly at the dealer, picking up my car. I said "Any luck?" The sales manager said "What do you consider luck?" and I said "um, acknowledgment that there is a problem, and him saying it will be fixed." and he just shook his head no. I said "so when will I hear from him?" and he said I won't. Apparently these RT's are some elusive little knob gobblers. Apparently they are not allowed to converse with normal human beings.
So, i'm back to square one.

Hmm.. Audi S5...comparably equipped, $54,000 and change. Need to save up a bit of cash!

Dude that just sucks. I would maybe consider writing them a letter detailing how much money you are spending per month on this car and that absent a solution soon, you will file an action in state court for fraud and false advertising. Absolutely sucks.

If thats true, I'd like to see your dealership acknowledge that in writing so it can be shown not only to my dealership, but also to BMWNA.

dude, that totally sucks!

I just managed to talk a colleague out of buying 335i. He's had his heart set on one since last year. It was pretty easy though.. I just let him drive mine.

He looked completely heartbroken . Appearantally he testdrove one last year and fell in love.

Does this make me a bad person?

Write THAT to BMWNA and tell them you're gonna continue doing this until the problem gets fixed.

I just had the software update done 2 days ago - had collapsed vacuum lines for one of the turbos (code 30FF). They replaced the hoses and also installed the new s/w update.
EVER SINCE PICKING THE CAR UP I JUST WANT TO SCREAM - TURBO LAG KILLS ME - I just came across this forum's topic searching for what could it have been that ruined my 335i performance (caused slow throttle response - not as much trq as I used to have at lot RPM) and now thanks to this forum I KNOW - THE F'n S/W.
Called dealer last night and he told me to drive the car for couple days as it will re-learn my habits ...what a b/s ! Also, after reading page after page about this issue on this forum I also sent an e-mail to BMW Customer service last night to complain about this. Haven't seen any replies yet though.

Has anyone here been lucky enough to ask and get the old s/w re-downloaded to their car ? Not sure what else can be done to fix this horrible Turbo lag.

Welcome to 335 hell Cobu! You have good company here.
You are in the Philly area too! We should collaborate efforts. You can PM me if you want... what dealer you are using etc? We need to get you set up with the Regional Tech since it will be the same guy that had to come out for my car. The more the merrier.

Anyway, good work reading the thread. Also, search for "29.2 Official Check-in" and add your name to that thread. Also, call the BMW NA # listed there and TALK TO DAN (extension 6250), he is our area's guy. (I see you alread wrote BMW NA). Hammer 'em all around. Really though, we need that Regional Tech to have to spend time with your car too since he just had to deal with mine! I got my time set up by talking to Dan and having him call my dealer and MAKING my Service Manager set up the appointment.

Ezat, I like your idea, tag up with this guy. 2 different cars coming at one regional tech will hopefully do something.

Progman V31

Hello guys,

I am not personally affected by the discussed turbo lag issue because i drive a E46, but nevertheless I have been following this thread.

Here's some information regarding the availability of the Progman V31, and the release dates are as following:

Germany 2008-09-05
Availability Europe 2008-09-08
Availability Rest of World 2008-09-17

The V31 will only be available on DVD and not by JETStream, so that unfortunately you from the U.S. will have to wait 3 more weeks.

I don't have any information if the wastegate-cycle has been changed in V31, but I wish you luck!

Wow. Cool stuff. Thanks for caring enough to contribute despite not even having a vested interest!

Now, the rest of us need to start praying that V31 helps us out when it gets here.

Two more things: Meyerguru, would you possibly be able to find out more and/or try this when it gets to Germany next week? I know if I were you I'd be scared to lose my rolled-back 27.4, but, if you can work with your dealer to flash you BACK AGAIN if this one is still awful, then it wouldn't be to bad other than you sacrificing your time for the flashings.

Also, nOOgz, can you elaborate on that JETStream vs DVD thing. I am unfamiliar with the implications of the update being one vs the other.
Thanks

You're welcome ;-)

As far as i know, the Distribution by DVD is obligatory when the Progman-version exceeds a certain size (the V31 will be almost 7GB).

Whereas smaller "updates" lets say the V31.1, which is to come out shortly after, will be available by "download" also.

Sounds like V31 has some serious stuff on it. I can't wait to hear the reports from Germany on this.

There is a simpler way to check if v31 addresses the problems in the first place: There should be target status numbers for that version so that he can check if the DME version # has changed. Also, usually, there are release notes that show what has been addressed. I have just e-mailed my shop's foreman.

I bet they won't upgrade my car unless it is clear that there will be no more problems. And I won't let it be flashed before that is the case, either.

About the JETstream thing: There are Progman revisions that are big enough to justify a whole new DVD, while smaller changes (such as v30.x as my foreman told me) are sent out via an online update (supposedly called JETstream) to the diagnostic units.

On the DVD thing...so this update is big enough to warrant the whole new disc? Well, hoepfully bigger is better!

I don't quite understand this: "There is a simpler way to check if v31 addresses the problems in the first place: There should be target status numbers for that version so that he can check if the DME version # has changed." What does DME version # have to do with it? Isn't DME the V80/V81, etc which is the hardware side of things?

Thanks!
