I went to school originally for Info Sys Mgmt and switched my major in about 2 months! I hated it! I couldnt speak computer lingo if my life depended on it, back then.

yea i guess u can say i speak the lang pretty good...unfortunately a 26 yr old hot shot dev wont get any face time with lead architects because i only have 5yr exp vs their 20+....but i single handedly wrote chubbs new Yacht Inquiry system and email communication system all by myself....which they use everyday....these old geezers need to realized its 2010 and proprietary licensed software sucks...open source FTW....and we can design it however we like ithout the constraints of the supporting company

I like the idea of open source, but can companies truly trust the work of outsiders?

(I ask this with very little knowledge of how well open source works)

it depends on what open source framework your using....yrs ago its was all VERY unstable...but now you have toolkits like googleIO or libraries like jquery and prototype that are used WIDELY by big fortune companies to leverage this new stuff....the baseline software is stable until you yourself start tweaking it....but that is the beauty of open source....it gets better with more devs working on it...

Actually, I am not currently an engineer. I teach Physics and coach Football and Baseball.

I am very happy with my job!

I guess I'm glad people would like to volunteer to do this stuff.

ill be the first person to tell you its NOT for everyone....thats why we get paid the money we do...a bachelors degree and a couple of certifications in the right places can net a recent college grad over 100k right out of college
