I agree with this but it can't ignored even a new EV can catch fire very quickly for no reason, even before it's delivered to the customer.

Believe the science.

Correct, yet if you read through this thread you would think all EVs catch fire. The fact is ICE catch fire more often. Neither catch fire enough to make me think twice about driving either. Probably higher chance of being in a reck in either than any of them catching fire.

Best way to appreciate your ICE, EV or hybrid vehicle? Rent a Jeep Compass for a week. Missing my Tesla.

Coles notes

EV catches on fire less, but usually more intense, and burns for longer.
ICE cars catches on fire more often, but usually less intense, and burns for less.

They both catch fire, both don't usually catch fire but can, if that bugs you maybe ride a bike?

Glad we FINALLY arrived at this point

Anchoring bias is something I really try to watch for in myself. Confirmation bias is always a problem for all of us.

Things were still pretty nasty over there, but all of my family made it out relatively unscathed. No flooding, just some trees and fences down and things like that. Still lots of work to do from Helene though, the flooding that storm created was awful for my family, one of the houses is basically stripped to studs right now, kitchen and vanities gone, interior finishes removed up 5 feet, most furniture gone... just awful. Thankfully that's a second house, not primary residence.

Well, if you think a few hundred years of Geology science as a source that "sucks", then your the one with the psychobabble biases.

It's not the data that you're looking at that sucks (well, sometimes it does suck), but it's the interpretation and extrapolation of said data that sucks.

Pretty sure dude predicted that we'd be seeing clear signs of a coming ice age.

Agree with those that don't want to buy an electric because of the tech changes. I think we are on the cups of major improvement in 5yrs. All of these current evs are going to seem very old. I quite like the PHEV. We have an x5e and it's great. Only electric around town, but full range on trips. There are some great leases right now on Mercedes, Cadillac, etc. I'm about to take my first step into full electric, but I'm going to lease. I don't want it long term, but I'm curious enough to want to try one out.

Actually two huge bolders brace each side of the house. They are about 1 billion years old. Formed during the Grenville orogeny. Pretty neat.

Far be it from me to be 'that guy,' but could it possibly be that ICE cars catch fire more often because there's way more of them out in the world, and way more of them that are older and have been poorly maintained? Beater Teslas don't really exist in any meaningful quantity. Feels like an obvious point that may have already been addressed... but this thread is over 400 pages long and I am not reading all that.

Anyway I wouldn't personally buy any EV, and I wouldn't buy most new ICE cars for the same reasons. Everything is too tech heavy, EV or ICE, and everything is literally too heavy as well. Most new cars feel like sensory deprivation tanks, and anything performance oriented can rocket me to jail speeds in 2 seconds. Like okay it's cool that something that weighs 6000 pounds can go from 0-60 in the times that supercars from not that long ago could do, but how engaging is that really on a day to day basis?

For what it's worth, I think my 2013 F30 has too much tech, and I'd happily 'downgrade' to an older car for my next car. I know I'm probably in the minority but if I could find a black over beige E39 530i 5 speed for a decent price I'd be driving it now. Maybe if I had kids I'd be interested in a big isolated box of airbags... but I don't.
