Same here - I like the feel of the gym no matter how crowded. Always interesting people to look at.

Today some guy was doing incline bench with his shirt pulled up to his chest. Maybe he was showing his peacock feathers to the girls near him, but I am not sure. He was probably 18-20% body fat and "skinny", haha

LOL I see that all the time...dudes get up off a bench and just casually pull their shirts up to their faces...hoping some chick's looking. Idiots!

I'm on the road again, and Christ- the imaginary lat syndrome is strong here in Sinaloa.

Except considering it's cartel town, I need to watch my temper around here

Decided to cancel our Family Membership to La Fitness today because i was trying to sign up my youngest and they said because 4 is the maximum limit for a family i would have to sign him up as a new member. So that's $29.99 per month. They require first/last month's payment along with a $25 iniation fee so they wanted $84.98 up front which I'm already paying $91 per month. So with just adding my son my monthly would be $121 per month. I told them they are effing crazy and to cancel my membership. They asked if they could waive the iniation fee and i told them I'll take my business elsewhere. So i ended up finding a brand new gym just 5 minutes down the road and it only cost $50 for the 5 of us each month. I'm saving just a little over half going to the new gym than La Fitness.

That sounds cheap to me! I pay $140 a month for just 2 people. But maybe we get a lot more service for the $$. Is LA Fitness fairly bare bones?

At $70/month each, somebody better be doing the lifting for you.

La Fitness is one of the big corporate gyms like 24 hr Fitness...not a mom and pops. Most of the new upcoming gyms are going with lower memberships to compete with the big corporate gyms. $140 for 2 people is expensive dude! So for the Platinum membership at my new gym gives you access to all the classes like Zumba, Spin, Crossfit and a variety of other classes. Tanning and a Kids Zone to watch your kids if you have any for $19.99 or if you're there just to use the free weights, machines and cardio equipment it's only $10

My gym has tons of free classes as well, but also some paid classes (most of the crossfit style classes). My gym does have free child care when you are using the gym so maybe they build that into the cost a bit and those of us without kids subsidize it.

My gym does provide just about every amenity I can think of (like razors)

Oh no, it was $95 a month before I added my girl to my plan recently.

$140 seems like a steal to me. Crossfit gyms around me are typically $120+ per person per month.

Myself + son = $43/month. There is some sort of annual "assessment fee" on the order of $10-15 each. I'm going to grill them on that one once I see it, because no pins in machines, machines where the padding has been missing for weeks/months, still can't get in the pool because County Health dept. closed it down for being out of conformance on the water chemistry.

They just built this rather large enclosure in the middle of the floor, moving everything to make room. BUT, you must be escorted in there by a trainer, and most likely must pay said trainer.

Going from shithole countries to shithole gyms where you can catch malaria if you go swimming.

Some dude in my gym does that. He only does that when he’s in his gym clothes. When he has his jacket and street clothes on, he walks normal. He’s not a small dude but carrying probably 20-25% body fat...

Spends his time chatting to anyone and everyone about football and anything and everything else, the entire time...also kind of reminds me of those dudes that are still living their high school glory.

There's an enclosed glass room about 24x15 that had 3 full size boxing bags that i use religiously and they did the same thing removed the bags and put a bunch of machines and some free weights and put a big ass sticker "Trainers only"

I was pissed and complained to management and they said "Sorry sir but we needed a room for our Trainers to train their clients." Which before i changed gyms i rarely saw any "Clients" being trained even during the busiest hours

On a side note because the new gym I'm going to is brand spanking new all the equipment including the barbells and dumbells are freaking new it's just crazy! I mean even the plates and olympic bars are brand new

Maybe that is why my gym is so expensive. Everything is always new, if there is wear it is fixed or replaced pretty quick. I rarely see any equipment in poor shape, let alone broke, and if so it is replaced or fixed within 24 hours. It has just about anything you can think of.. for example it has 3 full size pools (indoor cold, indoor heated, outdoor with swim up bar)

We have a really big trainer space in the middle with a yuuuge TRX gym, but all gym members are allowed to use it whenever they want even though the classes and trainers are always jam packed as well.

My last employer had an awesome gym, multiple power racks, bumper plates and dumbbells up to 125 (bay area perks) , then a skinny middle aged exec (who makes them play queen over the speakers while he works out) made them turn almost 1/4 the gym into a giant American Ninja TRX setup that cost hundreds of thousands.

Luckily I had my 24 membership :/

People who turn the damn radio on to country music. Don't get me wrong, I like country music, but not while working out. How are you supposed to get hyped to deadlift with Redneck Yacht Club blaring??? :

And the music is so damn loud I can hear it over my headphones.
