Is there no way you cant just get an amp and wire to 2 earthquakes under the seat without having to cut wires and coding etc?

hey sam, hoping you can help me decide on some of this... i want to upgrade my sounds in Feb... i'm quite an audiophile, i did all my own work on my E46 but i think this time i'm gonna leave it to the pros - i want this system to be more about audio fidelity (the e46 was more about bass and loudness, it was like a club in there haha (2 15" kicker L7s were a part of it to give you an idea))....

i'm looking to spend around a grand, and can be talked into spending more... i'm thinking the Gladen system is for me, although i want the sound to be clean, i want some bass too... i'm probably gonna leave this in the car when i sell it, i won't be bothered to yank it all out... (let me know if you think i should go for something else)

few questions though... i have a base/hi-fi system in my car (ie. no tweeters) and a CIC upgraded from CCC, and it's an e93...

is it possible for all of this to be done (inc. installation and tuning) under my budget? what's the difference between stage 3 and stage 4 on monsteraudio?? is there only one sub?? and if so is it not possible to upgrade both underseat subs??

erm that's about it... really appreciate any help you give me! and anybody else for that matter

New 335 Owner - Can't WAIT to upgrade stereo

Hi I just bought my first 335; a 2011 X-Drive model; can't believe how crappy the base audio system is...

Would like to do the Alpine upgrade with some kicker subs and a MS7 to de-EQ it.

Where can I get all the parts I'll need?

It is very difficult to answer as I do not know what is your audiophile level?

If you want just ordinary stuff, then Gladen with DSP amp should serve you.

If you want more clarity at uppers frequencies, then Focals at the doors but Gladen as underseats.

If you want a little more clarity and high volume, then add bit 1/ ten.

Sub is going to be difficult as its convertible. However if you have storage well in your boot, then it can be used.

I'd suggest you to for for
- Focal fronts mids
- Gladen under seats
- BSW rear speakers (if you are after SPL)
- JL XD 600/6 to save the space

And see how you feel.

If you are not happy with that, then add
- Bit 1/ 10
- sub in the storage well with JL XD 600/1

appreciate the help man

it's quite hard to describe a level of audiophile... erm i use AKG K550 headphones which are regarded as one of the best reference headphones and i have a custom 7.2 surround sound system for my home cinema system... so i might be quite an audiophile haha... although, i dont want to go mental on the budget with it....

i think to save some money, i may do the build myself... i was just reading some tutorials on the audio section of the forum and it looks doable!

the focals look great, ima go for them...
and the gladen underseats too....
not sure about BSWs for the rear though? i wanted to power the rears up with an amp too, or is that pointless?? i don't there's anywhere to put tweeters as well :\

and also i was looking at putting a speaker in the centre bit of the dash? i really want to do that lol... any recommendations for that??

and i think i'd really want a dsp too... i'd rather do it now then want to add it later... also, i feel like i need 2 amps? i wouldn't mind putting one up on the rear wall and one on the floor...

and lastly, by storage well, where do you mean? do mean in the actual boot itself?? i think for an e93 it's pointless putting a sub in the boot... my back seats don't fold down and the boot is tiny already lol... my plan was to get as much bass as possible from the underseats....

Tweeter

If you purchase the Focal 100 KRS It comes in a kit with tweeters and crossovers and I can confirm that they sound great!

I've ordered the Alpine Upgrade kit for my E90 and I've already got the new tweeter mouldings that go around the door with the grille for the tweeters, I've been doing some reading and I'm wondering whether I need new foam inserts to house the tweeter? Or is this only on E92's and the E90's foam insert is fine when it comes to housing the tweeter? If I do need new foam inserts does anyone have the part number?

Thanks in advance!

I replaced mine too when I fitted my Focals the foam is already in the window surrounds that you take off so you simply reuse it in the new surrounds with the tweeter grills. BMW put the same foam you need with the correct tweeter cut out in all their cars regardless off tweeters or not.

Does anyone know of the cheapest place to buy the kit and corner grills at the moment? Also a cheap place to fit in the Oxford/Nhants type area? I am totally clueless about this stereo stuff so can't fit it myself!

I think they are slightly different in the E92, I will check BMW direct, I think they sell the Alpine kit for £370

Is it worth upgrading the in-floor subs to the hifi version along with this upgrade?

I can get a pair cheap, they got to be better than the base versions?

Jammy78 I'll let you know in a few weeks as Sam should be installing an alpine retrofit into my car with Logic7 subwoofers + Pre LCI headunit recoded to Hi-Fi. I know the base version of the subs are 6.5" and the rest are 8" so I assume it'd be worth it on that alone.

I've got the Logic 7 subs, works really well with the Alpine kit IMO.
I also replaced the HU with one from a 2012 model to get USB & BT.
And I coded it to "HiFi" which really makes the system work much better at high volume.

Really made a nice difference, only problem with that is all outputs are switched to low level.
But the Alpine amplifier only drives the front & underseat subs.
The rear speakers are still driven by the stereo so my PDC sounds are really low now.
Anyone know of a fix for that besides getting another small amplifier for the rear aswell?

I've installed this kit & it makes a MASSIVE difference!

The only issue, it doesn't sound right.... the frequency is slightly strange, uncomfortable I would say!

Is this due cos it needs coding to hifi? I have pre 03/09 & CIC retrofit?

@jammy78 How's the bass with it, did you use the standard 6.5s in the end? I'm not expecting rudeboy subwoofer level of bass but is it atleast punchy?

Thanks

I am using standard subs atm - & yes it is much more punchy.... You can feel the vibration!

I've actually got a pair of logic 7 subs & rear hifi speakers (I know these won't make much difference) on the way.... might as well make the most of the upgrade

Sam is installing mine next Saturday with L7 subs and recoding to HiFi, I can't wait! Everytime I drive my sisters MK5 I die a little inside at how terrible the base system in our ~£30k+ new BMWs are compared to her 1.6 golf.

That's good to hear though cause the bass was very distorted and not punchy at all with the stock 6.5s in the base system!

Get in..... I managed to code my cic to hifi & wow what a difference...... the uncomfortable frequency is gone & it's so much clear! I'm now really pleased with this upgrade!

It is such a simple DIY, it'll take a few hours but nothing is difficult!

Bring on the L7 subs!

I'm not too sure if I have missed anything....... Is there anyway of just upgrading my BMW professional speaker system as the current speakers are not the best at high volume? I get distortion with the bass which I have got used to just tweaking the volume to remedy the issue. Is there a simple all round speaker upgrade that I can get which just means me swapping out the stock speakers?

If I didn't have the distorted sound I would be happy!

Ok, after a few days with this alpine upgrade..... my conclusion is that it is shit!

Granted the sound is louder (it should be with a amp) but at a normal sound level, it is no better than Base with tweeters added, in fact I would say its worst as the sound is uncomfortable!

I have coded my CIC to hifi & check & double checked the wiring..... so there's nothing I can see I've done wrong in my install!

I'm not even going to bother installing the L7 subs when they arrive!

Would I recommend this retrofit...... HELL NO!

I will be uninstalling it, when I get some spare time! Complete waste of money! You've been warned!
