The faster scrolling instead of slowing going through every song (or artist or whatever category your in) now speeds up and grays out the names and uses numbers instead so you can more rapidly move through the list, of course the numbers are hard to correlate to the song/artist so you have to stop now and again to find out where you are in the list.
There's some more info in this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93497 I also noticed that my iPhone would occasionally lose its Bluetooth connection and then have to search to find it again after I would hang up a call and it hasn't done it since the upgrade. Nik

Haven't gone to the dealer yet. I'm testing out my GF's older model nano to see if does the same thing. I want to rule out possibility of the ipod classic integration being the problem. Last edited by poppyljg; 01-23-2008 at 04:41 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Sorry I dont want to look through 45 pages, but I have 2 quick questions:
Can this be done with a retrofit to a 06 model w/ I-drive? Will this work with the Iphone? Thanks!

My 3G iPod just started doing this. It's stuck, and works fine on everything else, just not in my 335i. What happens is that I can select Aux, and it shows the name of my iPod, but it gets stuck at, "Loading Data from the Audio Device." I can get my iPod to play by manually unplugging the USB port, but I can't control it that way. Last edited by kitw; 01-26-2008 at 10:09 PM.. |

yea...when you do a fast spin of the knob, it turns into numbers and "...", then skips a ton of entries. You can scroll 400 artists in less than 15 seconds now. Maybe less than 10.

Ipod Classic finally working!
So after 3 months, I finally got my Ipod Classic working properly.
Picked-up the new Y Cable (PN 61 12 0 440 796) and everything works fine. I can disconnect the Ipod immediately after shutting off the engine and it didn't discharge the Ipod overnight.

iPod Classic charging problem.
Apple just provided a new solution to the charging problem: iPod Classic Firmware V1.1. I just upgraded my iPod Classic to FW V1.1 and retested with the "old" cable (serial number 429 645) -> everything worked fine. The actual problem was that the iPod did not switch off after shut down of the car. Therefore the iPod's battery was drained over night. |

After ignition off the car will power down after about 3 minutes if nothing is touched (exact time depends on the options in the car). Charging stops after this time. The iPod should go to sleep mode some 2 minutes later. If your iPod Classic doesn't update your iPod to Firmware v1.1 and try again.

Hi,
I have 3 questions for those who probably know more than me on this subject, I have 335i with idrive and aux only:, 1) Although I dont have 6fl, just out of curiosity, is there any risk of transferring viruses or other dodgy software to the BMW central system from either Ipod or other MP3 USB device, using the 6fl USB port? Or is there any prorection against this? 2) As I dont have 6fl what is the best way of connecting ipod to the aux in the armrest? What cable/charger will fit in the armrest and still be able to close the armrest? 3) If I leave the power cable plugged into the ipod and ligter socket will it still charge when the car is switched off? Or do I need to disconnect the power cable so I do not drain the car battery? Thanks |

In theory this should be possible but technically it would be very difficult because you would need to write code that would interop with the operating system running in the car AND on the PC which are likely to be 2 different things.

cheers for response. i guess something worth at least thinking about, after all if it is possible and did happen its not so easy to reinstall bmw software i would guess (unlike reinstalling windows on a pc with such infection for example).
Although maybe any theoretical risk also applies to MP3 tracks played through the CD player, or is this a different type of risk from using a USB port? I think I will stick to conventional uncompressed CDs through the CD player which would give the best sound anyway. And ipod through the aux connector as this transmits only audio sound I think. When I can work out the best way to connect ipod to the aux connection that is! |

Where ever you have a situation where a device (in this case the car) reads data from an external source then there is the risk.
So the risk exists from the USB port, a CD, bluetooth or even the computer system at the dealership service centre when your car is on the ramps. Of course any such thing would need to be written to specifically target a vunerabilty in the software on your car. The odds of this are so low as to be not worth even thinking about. As for reloading the software, this would be much much easier than say loading windows onto a PC. Remember your car is NOT a computer. It does not have just one CPU with RAM and a hard disk. It is made up of a number of systems that talk to each other at a number of levels. So could it be done? Yes Will it be done? Well IT security is key to what I do for a living and today I would be more than happy to take a USB key from a PC I knew to have a virus on it and plug it into the USB port on my car. |

Here is the latest chapter in my never-ending 6FL saga...
To recap, my 30GB iPod Photo won't charge, neither will the wife's 80GB Classic. A few days ago I left the Photo in the car connected via the original iPod dock-USB cable (the white one) - and a few days later, the iPod was charged 50% (from down to zero). So the original iPod cable does charge it, albeit slowly. But with the BMW cable, nada (either that, or it similarly gets very little juice and perhaps playing it at the same time consumes more current than can go in). It's getting really really old... I think out of curiosity I'll update the Classic to the latest firmware and give a go for a few days. |
