ICE fire data versus EV fire data suggests that the fire risk per number of vehicles is higher with ICE. It would appear at this point that it is safer to transport kids via EV tech. This is separate from cost and logistic issues though. I don't mind disagreeing on this at all. Over time data will emerge that resolves this debate.
I agree overall with the data number of fires EV vs ICE although some suggest otherwise. I think some of the data favoring lower EV fire rate may be related to vehicle age as on average ICE vehicles are older and probably most low cost EVs are taken out of service at a younger age due to battery degradation and subsequent replacement costs.
I do not agree with electric school buses because of the batteries location directly above or below passengers and more importantly the increased time for egress of disabled children, I just do not think the risk benefit ratio is there.
Sincerely, and I am serious, have a blessed day.

Toxic smoke spewing out uncontrolled and of course 'official' statement of cause of fire unknown.

It's also next to like 5 nature preserves.

Nobody is discussing the environmental impact of these battery producing companies though like they would if it was an oil refinery.

In California the environmental impact of this plant has come up some in the realm of public policy.

Here is some of that discussion:

https://www.kron4.com/news/californi...s-evacuations/

https://www.thecalifornian.com/story...y/77785430007/

Here is a complaint lodged with the California Energy Commission:

https://efiling.energy.ca.gov/GetDoc...aspx?tn=261139

Here is the California Energy Commission link for all of its documents on this power plant:

Here is an article from 2023 where residents were worried about this battery project:

Another article from 2023 in opposition to this plant change:

https://www.newtimesslo.com/news/mor...plant-13908695

Here is a link to the 2019 initial application for the County of Monterrey on the battery plant:

Here is a link on that page above and is 64 pages long on the initial environmental impact:

Here is the initial biology letter on impact:

https://monterey.legistar.com/View.a...0-EC7238DC1D2F

This is just the tip of the iceberg. It's impressive the sheer amount of human activity and discussion that has gone into this one single plant.

What were you seeing that led you to think that no one was discussing this?

The fact that what happened still happened. If it was an oil refinery nobody would have allowed it to be built in that location.

I’m gobsmacked that any large facility can be built in California with its dense laws on building and abstruse environmental and legal hurdles. Just look at their high speed rail debacle.
