It will be different because the 530i chassis has different settings. You could make it work, but it would be a lot easier to use a file from an MSV80 130i.

I dunno, I have a file from one? I would think later ones, or maybe it was a US only thing.

It would have been a non US thing since the US only ever got the 128 and 135 (and M1)

PM me your email address

I can't guarantee the program version is the latest or that it will match yours. It's just a random stock file that I'm not even sure who sent it to me anymore, lol. But it's definitely a 3 stage MSV80 tune.

Bumpity bump Hass!

Working on a positive displacement project on my old girl n52b25 which is running on MSV70 too, problem is the tuner I am working with is from Sweden, so intend to clone my ecu and send him the clone to play with, can you shed some light on this?

he just needs a BDM unit that can read MPC5xx CPUs - CMD Flash, Xprog, etc. There are 3 files you have to copy over from the original DME to the "clone" - the MPC563 internal flash, the external flash, and the serial EEPROM.

Just a little update - I have now located 7,832 out of 8,916 parameters on MSV70 (current software rev). I'd say I've done about 200 of those by hand, the rest I found with custom software.

I should be able to find another 500 or so, but the rest are either way different, or they don't even exist on the newest software - also, there are a few parameters that are new that did't exist in the original software.

There is a total of 8,713 parameters in the current MSV70 software rev (049PP921S) - so, some of them will never be found because they no longer exist. There are also many that are still present but aren't referenced anywhere in code, so you can change them but they don't affect anything.

Truly awesome, I don't think many on this forum can fully grasp how much work went into this endeavor. Well done,

On another note, did you ever learn if 70 degrees retard on the intake cam was a physical limit or just software? If physical, can it be modified without installing the cam with built in retard?

The adjusters are maxed out. You would have to physically retard them.

Too bad. I think the tuning would be easier if it was a simple hardware adjustment.

Unless we find a simple starting offset value, faking a intake can retard in the tune could get messy for me.

Its interesting,
I've read on Russian forums that when they swap 2.5 to 3.0 (MSV70) they just upload different ZB via WinKFP and then code the car, i.e. they dont use BDM or Kess

how would that be enough without changing power class in dump?

That doesn't work. the powerclass won't match and the DME will be in limp mode. Also, after so many hours (basically when the car is first produced) - you can't change the powerclass in the car either (it's locked). So unless they are unlocking the powerclass/hour counter, something else is going on.

and you can't just change it in the 0DA file either; unless they have BMWs 1024bit RSA private key to recalculate the hash, the flash will fail.

They may be flashing from a 2.5 liter to a 3.0 liter file, which may work - but you can't flash from a single stage to a 3 stage file.

I wonder what powerclass value is used in the 160KW/218HP version of the 2.5.

yeah that's what I'm thinking they are doing. Taking something from like a 2.5 liter with the 3 stage and flashing it over a 3 liter. Without looking at all of the files, it's hard to know which ones are 02 and which ones are 00. Not really a great idea regardless as all of the ignition, fuel and VANOS settings will be wrong.

I took a quick look at my Z4 2.5 SI notes and the powerclass is 02. So I assume if you swap a 3 liter motor into the car, you could possible just flash it with the 3.0SI software for the higher output. Might be something else blocking it from running, but powerclass should be ok.

I don't have a 3 series 2.5 liter high output file to look at but I expect it will be the same.

Yes, exactly - and that still doesn't let you flash a 3 liter 3 stage tune over a 3 liter single stage car. The power class has to match, period.
