My 933 had been working fine for over a year, or over 17k. Decided to do the recall in Feb and got the new 446. No problems so far, other than my car overheating today (fuel pump someone speculated) my car has 57,xxx miles.

6/08 build e92. Called BMW NA in March and they said no recalls. Took to the German BMW dealer today for different reason and they said my car was recalled for HPFP.
This was a German BMW dealer telling me my US spec car was recalled. I was getting long cranks but they were not all the time. They said they replaced the HPFP. I pick it up on Friday (German holiday tomorrow) |

Back in April we brought my wifes car to the dealership to get a couple problems fix - one of the tail lights was out, and there was a warning for low coolant. They took care of these two problem, changed oil and filter, and did two recalls - one was apparently software update and the other one was the allmighty fuel pump. The car had around 8k on the clock at that time.
Yesterday the fuel pump died. She limped to the dealership, and they don't even have loaners available for customers with emergency repairs. Theres roughly 9k on the clock right now. |

Did you note what the part # was for the replacement fuel pump that was installed in April? And would be curious what they put in new. Thanks. Hope the car is fixed soon.

Got the dreaded 1/2 engine - engine malfunction reduced power 5 times on Friday. Every time a restarted the car it would go away for a while then come back. Took it to Irvine BMW today. They said that because I have a K&N air filter in the car, they will not do diagnostics. Must be caused by the filter. 30K miles, already had to HPFP's replaced! This SUCKS.
What really gets me is that they are now putting this on pretty much every car in the fleet right? 1,3,5,X,Z and soon we will be seeing turbos in M's too. Is there a BMW left worth buying? Now I'm left with a malfunctioning car! Really pissed! |

Stats:
Date of Manufacture: 3/07 In Service Date: 07/07 Type: 335i Convertible Mileage: 36,XXX miles BMW Service History: Standard maintenance, failure of headlight at 10,000 miles. No other issues. Me: Second owner, since mile 9,600 HPFP issues before: Abso-f***ing-lutelty none. Almost starts before you push the button, regardless of temp or phase of the moon. What happened: -Went in for "Last Free" oil change. -Informed HPFP needed replaced, software update -I declined told them I would bring it in when it failed. -Was told recall not optional, voided warranty if I refused. -446 pump installed, ECU re-flashed. Results: -I now have a very nice Toyota Camry. -software update dialed down boost below 3500rpm. What I think happened: -2007 model ECUs are different from 2008 and on -ECU reflash is blanketed for all models, but 2007 software and ECU was different or.... -BMW purposely dialed back boost in an attempt to reduce load on the HPFP assembly, at the expense of low end torque. -I purchased a car that was almost squarely in the middle of a 328i and and M3. the re-flash has made my car a throaty sounding 328i. My action: -Cobb Accessport. What I would like to say to BMWNA: -There is no more hitler, BMW. -Don't force a hardware update on customers, and then sneak a software update that dials back boost, for the purpose of extending the life of a component with an obvious design flaw. -Incompetence or arrogance? Does it matter? In the end the end user result is the same. |

So I bought my 2007 335i a year ago with 48k miles on it. It had 2 previous HPFPs replaced by the previous owner. The very first day I took it home, I got the long cranks. The next day, I took it back to BMW and they installed the new updated HPFP and the ECU update. No problems since then. Ppower great, boost great, Love the DS mode. Very quick. Would I buy it again, you bet I would. Love this car. Also, if the pump goes again, I'll install it again and again.

Just bought my 335i last weekend. Called to check if the work had been done and it had not. It is in the shop as we speak, being worked on for both the reprogramming recall and HPFP. I will report on part number once I have the invoice.

I thought HPFP was only on Turbo cars. This is a problem for the entire line now? Oh man!

The Bosch HPFP on my '09 335i was replaced with the Continental HPFP @ 8500 miles. I'm @ 13,225 miles now and no hickups. What usually kills fuel pumps is excessive heat (which is more than abundant under the hood of a 335i) and a lack of lubricity. Since the change I have never filled with any fuel that contains ethanol. Ethanol is corrosive. It may be fine for the 'Flex Fuel' cars but I'm not taking the chance. I also run Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. The owner's manual says NOT to run any additives, but I've had great success running it in several vehicles. I'm not a believer in snake oil, but this one seems to work. I've got my fingers crossed that this problem is solved because this car is too much fun to give up on.
