Yeah, I've been obsessed with sun-stars since getting that lens. The ND filter is actually really neutral, I went cooler in post to show how very cold it was that day!

I've got the excellent 14mm f/2.8L II, but every time I see one of those stars, I'm tempted to ditch it and get the 16-35mm. My 14mm has a decent star, but the 16-35mm seems made with that in mind.

My little 15mm f/2.8 fish-eye isn't all that bad:

Sunstar by David Stephens, on Flickr

I was thinking about selling it, but maybe I'll just keep it for star shots.

Not bad at all, and great shot too!

He's banded and may be in an aviary, but I'd certainly accept that as "wild." As long as you indicate a captive, no body with give you crap.

Great shot BTW, with a good pose and sharp eye.

Sun Stars . . . I love 'em.

Some great shots gentlemen, especially those sun stars.

One from sunset this afternoon.

West Beach January Sunset Panorama by Alan Butterfield, on Flickr

The position of the sun, at sunset in this shot, is quite interesting.
At around the Winter Solstice, the sun would have set just off the left hand edge of this image. Around the time of the Spring Equinox, the sun will be setting towards the centre of the image. Then, when we get to the Summer Solstice, the sun will set just off the right hand edge of this shot.
It's nice to see the sun working its way back to a more photogenic setting point.

Love that high ISO buck shot, Dave. Great mood.

Here's one of my favorite shots from Ukraine, this is a cathedral right outside the main train station in Odessa. I arrived there at 7am by overnight train, and saw this and had to shoot it. Wasted no time!

I'm only about 40-degrees North, but we get much the same effect. Hour winter sunsets and sunrises tend to have much more and better color than in the summer months.

Thanks Dmitry.

Your shot has artistic and informative interest to me. I love the BBQ and Hyundai signs, under the guilded spires. We don't see a lot of guild in the USA (that may change with Trump in power ), but we do see it occasionally. University of Denver has a guilded spire.

Yeah I love those spires. An interesting aside to the BBQ and Hyundai sign is the red sign on the storefront spells/reads "sandwich" ("sendvich" to be precise) as an English word spelled in Russian letters. A lot of English has made its way into the Russian language.

If that were an eagle, instead of a harrier, those coots would be running on top of the water.

JMG, like your sunrise/sunset picture. The cloud detail really makes it work.

Gary, beautiful lighting on Julianne. Pretty lady.

I'd either clone out, or do-over, to eliminate the distraction to her left, on the right of the image. Looks like a refrigerator door handle to me.
