Rolex watches are surprisingly lighter than I thought. Been looking at Jaeger LeCoultre too. Their watches are really nice. |

They have limited their supply flow so that they instantly sell out and keep their brand "exclusive". It hurts the end consumer for sure.

Serious question: why Rolex over other brands? From what I know and understand they make so many of them and there are better built brands out there that are cheaper. Is it because it’s probably the most recognized brand?

1) The last sentence you made is probably a large part of it. 2) I love the way most sport Rolexes look, they aren't overdone or gaudy and they are in my price point. 3) Resale value Many will say Omega is actually premium to Rolex in terms of build quality... I don't see myself actually wanting one and If I did, I'd purchase a basic seamaster off Jomashop for a fraction of the price... The only other watch in this price point that I really like is Vacheron Constantin... and its more expensive than Rolex... I don't see myself spending that type of money on a watch almost no one will recognize... in the end its a luxury good no matter how anyone spins it to you... an Apple Watch for $200 will be far more advanced in tech and more accurate, do I want one? Nah A few things I will add... AP seems to be the rappers choice these days... I only would ever see myself in a basic Royal Oak, all others are super gaudy. Patek would only be the rare luxury models. Richard Mille is offensive in every single way imho. |

Brand recognition and resale. If you're trying to impress a lady, odds are she'll be excited about your rolex, but totally ignore your Patek that cost 4 times as much.

Ah yes, resale value is great on Rolexes.
I too prefer simple designs and do like Omega Seamasters and Rolex Submariners. Jaeger LeCoultre designs are also very nice and elegant. I prefer subtle elegance over big, bulky, busy, and in your face designs. Next one will most likely be a JLC watch. Dad is set on a Rolex so this coming year will get him one. Time to find a good AD and place myself on the waitlist. If you know any good ones please PM me. |

1-Instant date change 2-First water resistant case ,that was a big deal back in those days 3-Automatic movement improvements and breakthru in this technology 4-First watch with a magnifying glass 5-First watch brand to introduce day and date complication All this has helped Rolex make its mark

Also, i know i can usually sell for about what i paid if not more. As for the quality and value, quality wise they are on par with Omega, with Omega getting a slight nod with their movement technology. And i prefer omega as a brand, but rolex has the better looking watches imo.

Thinking back I probably should have visited the dealers in Porto and Lisbon when I was there this past November. They may or may not have Subs in stock but it would have been cheaper if they did. At least the VAT savings would have been nice. Wasn’t planning on buying then so whatevs.

Probably my favorite piece in my collection. Didn't know there was a watch sub thread on the forums. Nice

Yes, there are cheaper sports cars that perform just as well or even better. Yes, there are more expensive faster sports cars but something about a 911, something about that classic design and timeless appeal, that makes you want one, a certain coolness about it. Rolex's are to watches what 911's are to sports cars. Here is a picture of my Submariner No Date, my favorite watch, my 911 Untitled by George A, on Flickr |

its a setup. all those shows like this are setups.
Also, says its NOS, meaning never worn, and yet there is wrist cheese in the bracelet and the caseback sticker is worn, meaning its been worn, and worn a fair amount.
