Toyota definitely has the duck billed spoiler market cornered. I think it looks a little better on the Supra which has more curves going on but I need to see it in person as photos don't always convey what cars look like in person.

Looks like Toyota will be using the BRZ/86 platform even further with a new Hybrid Lexus Coupe.

very interesting. I have so many questions though
- will it still be built at the subaru plant ? not exactly on par with lexus quality
- is it possible to pair a manual with a hybrid system ?
- what will it compete with ? the supra / 400z ?

i hope they succeed though.

Honda has done manual hybrids, but I'd be shocked if Toyota did it. Lexus has been all auto for years now, can't see them going back. If you want a manual, it won't be the Lexus.

It looks to be a relatively new rumor so its really unknown whether it will really happen, but Lexus has been teasing an expansion of the
"F" branding. That being said I do find it interesting if Lexus is diving into the sports coupe market despite their brand image being associated with anything but sport.

Definitely some interesting questions.

Lexus quality definitely needs to be top notch and based on the Subaru's I've been in I'm not sure they'll offer the solid feel that most Lexus' offer.

Manual hybrids are rare but indeed possible, I know Honda's done a few (CRZ, Civic) but I doubt that Lexus will use a manual transmission in this car, which raises the question of if they will use the 6-Speed Automatic that's available for the BRZ/86.

I imagine the last question and suggestion of competitors will become true, as the car will likely gain some weight and probably be on the low end of 3,000lbs, be above 300 horsepower and likely priced around that of a Lexus RC.

A lot of unknowns at the moment, but this is definitely a car that I'm super curious about as it will be unlike any other Lexus.

Most probably it's a rumor This car is too small for the Lexus buyer

Anyone remember the Mitsubishi FTO? This 86 reminds me of that.

Fresh Touring Original!

I find it entertaining that Nissan releases info on the 400Z a day after the press embargo ends on the Toyota 86.

The Z has analog gauges!!! A real live handbrake and manual trans!!!

Exciting times for entry level sports cars buyers. Get em while you can.

That rear end looks like an updated FTO!

Price embargo was lifted today: $28,725 for the manual and $30,335 for the AT ($31,325/$32,825 for the Premium model).

As we get closer to the GR86 release, is anyone still waiting on one of these?

IMO, the 2022 BRZ looks pretty nice with the STi gloss-black splitter and skirts. Waiting on the 2022 GR86 configurator to pop up - with HKS already announcing plans for both a turbo and S/C kit in early 2022, maybe the GR86 might become more attractive at whatever price point it is. Wonder if Toyota will do a TRDxGR bodykit like the concept ones.

I am very much so, probably not at launch but will likely look at this to replace my daily when the time comes, personally I like the cleaner lines on the GR86. I will admit it'd be a very hard choice if the GR corolla does come out around the same time

Surprisingly the price is so much higher for you folks in the states. It starts at $31,490 CAD (~25,500k USD) here

That undercuts the Miata by about ~$2k (base to base). Not sure what kind of options are available but the Miata benefits greatly from higher trims.

I'll probably pick up a BRZ next year sometime. I sold my Miata 7 months ago because I never drove it, literally put 900 miles on it in one year. We both work from home so sharing one car hasn't been a problem.

I'd really like a 981 S or maybe a new Supra, but it seems dumb to drop $50k on a car that will only be used for road trips and Sunday brunch.

Here is the spec sheet in case anyone is considering racing a GR86 Cup Car.
$125k for the car + ~$32k in annual fees.
Any vendors out there want to sponsor me?
