If you walk into any dealership, the finance manager is the one who sells the extended warranty. He will ask you for your key, read it, and print out some paperwork specific to your car. It shows a) that you are eligible b) every plan that is available incl. maintenance. Those are the MSRP prices.

When I was shopping in 7/2010, I came across the same grid on the web. I found that each plan was higher than what was printed out from my key, which btw was indentical from 3 dealerships. The only difference was the 3rd dealership was willing to discount and also to not charge me sales tax. I guess that's the power of the web, and why it's important to shop around. That dealership is fortunate that they put up their prices and people who find it are doing their marketing for them.

John,

I'm not sure when they started to sell BMW factory extended warranties. I bought my extension at the end of Nov 2010. Maybe you can call BMW of Austin and check with them.

Could be they weren't selling their own very well and changed their minds, because my experience was in July 2010. The CA told me if I were you, I'd go and get a BMW warranty, but we can't sell them (finance mgr. was out of the room). He told me the aftermarket is way more profitable to the dealerships than BMW. So those coupons are living proof that the warranties are absolutely discounted, though it took me 3 dealerships, first two wouldn't budge. Hopefully, when they take the $400 off, it's from the key read price, not from the grid that someone posted in this thread, or some of the other prices in this thread that are marked up over list.

Hi all,

I have posted on several threads regarding warranties and I wanted to give an update on what I just purchased.

I bought my 2007 E93 335i Vert used last year and have been searching for the best warranties for a fair price. Living in California many 3rd party warranty companies do not sell here due to some stricter laws. With what I was left with I was considering Warranty Direct, Ford ESP, and BMW EVP (Gold/Platinum).

Initially I was favoring Ford ESP, but late last year they jumped their prices from ~2800 to ~3800 for their top level PlatinumCare warranty (same 7/100 coverage). I was too late to the game and for that price might as well get the warranty backed by BMW. Warranty Direct prices were really attractive, but I ruled them out since I didn't want to deal with hassles with claims, not paying full labor prices, and other BS!

I actually hadn't been to a BMW dealership yet since no service was required since my purchase. I called just to verify when my warranty was expiring (2 months left) and they offered me a deal over the phone that I could not refuse ($100 over COST according to them)

7/100 Gold $2840 (~$3500 MSRP)
7/100 Platinum $3250 (~$4000 MSRP)

Since I have all the bells and whistles I went with the Platinum for full coverage. While I was signing the papers, the finance guy was explaining to me that for Jan/Feb dealerships get a bonus if they sell X amount of warranties. The month is almost over and they have a few more warranties to sell to meet that threshold and that is why I was given such a great deal. If you're in the market you may want to give your local dealerships a call, they may have an unadvertised sale to reach their numbers!

Has anyone seen better prices for 7/100 for 335i?

Almost forgot, those prices were out the door cost. No additional sales tax or any other charges on top.

Just called some places to get quotes. Was told the MSRP for the Gold plan on an 08 335i with 35k miles was:

6/100: $3040
7/100: $3490
7/70: $3140

One of the places told me he'd knock $150 off. I've emailed other dealerships in the area with the $150 off quotes to see what their best price is. I copied all the dealerships on the same email so they know that they have competition. I'll report back with my findings.

Thanks but I think I was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I was so surprised to be offered that straight up without any negotiation, I just took it.

Those prices look like legit msrp (you see from this thread that some dealerships mark up above msrp). If you're charged sales tax in your state, try to keep that in mind when you determine what price you want to pay. I was told the BMW warranties provide less of a margin than the aftermarkets that the dealerships also sell, but it was a finance mgr. telling me that. I think 10% off with no sales tax is reasonable, but that's my opinion, neither here nor there. Good luck!

That's close to home and a good price. Did you purchase your car there? Who did you work with?

I actually contacted a couple of dealerships, Knauz and Fields BMW for quotes. Knauz ended up quoting the $2790. However, I purchased my car at Patrick and had an appointment for some maintenance work the other day. I simply took my quote from Knauz and talked to the Patrick's finance lady and she price matched the warranty.

Here are the best prices I've got after emailing the other dealers and using their offers against each other.

$2690 for 6yr / 100k Gold
$2790 for 7 yr / 70k Gold
$3140 for 7 yr / 100k Gold

Honestly, if compared to when I bought in July 2010, those are decent, nothing to write home to mother about prices.

Guys, there's no mystery behind extended warranties. The MSRP is a given, and it can be verified by turning your key over to the finance manager. What is variable is how much a dealership is willing to discount. imho, 10% is for starters--not every dealership will do it, and as you can see from this thread, some have marked-up over MSRP....

Does any1 know if you need to buy from a local dealership? Can't I just piggyback some of the good deals seen on this thread (anywhere in country) and then go to a local BMW dealership for repairs? To me this is the equivalent of buying the car at dealer A and servicing it at dealer B?

You don't have to buy the warrany from the same dealer you have your car serviced. However, I would just see of your local dealer is willing to price match these online prices. It's what I did and it worked out fine. Most dealerships won't say no to money, especially warranty money.

I just cannot fathom spending near $3,000 for what amounts to an adittional one year of warranty beyond what the factory provides (speaking of 5yr./100K Gold or platinum). If the car suffers from anywhere near $3,000 in repairs between 48 and 60 months from in service date, it is time for a different car, warranty or no warranty.

BTW, regarding sales tax: This is likely a state-to-state variance. Many states do not charge sales tax on unrealized services, such as extended warranties.

Not sure where you got the one year from, but for $3000 you should be able to get 3 additional years of coverage.

Little off with years yes but I agree 3000 is still steep. I have only 22000 miles on my car and being quoted 3040 + tax for 2 more years. Even after 2 years I'd be shocked if I crossed 45k miles. I'm leaning toward at maximum purchasing konly the drivetrain to avoid a huge engine or tranny cost. Othe than that I cant see tallying another 1000-1500 in repairs.

Anyone here get a quote on a xi/xdrive? According to the table a couple pages back they are classified at a "C" rate which is the same as the M3! Crap.

I just got an exteded warranty for my e93 Platinum 7/70K for $3200 today. No one ever mentioned financing option but I just want to mention the dealer agreed to finance it. I think it is a decent price.
