Yeah, I have to email/paypal a member later this week to get a hold of the AFE SI intake for the test. To be honest, I fully expect the Injen to win, I just think it looks terrible.
I'm also going to try and rig up a custom intake from the extra stock box I have (AFTER TESTING) and see what I can come up with. |

i copied DJ APEX's euro intake, and honest, it pulls a tad hard in the upper rpm's.
after the little dip we get at 3.5/4k it feels better. nothing crazy, i bet it did knock a tenth or two from the 1/4 mile time tho. buy a stock air box and try it. or shoot buy the parts and ill build it.

Talked to Johnny D, should be getting the SI intake this week, and I talked to the shop to get some dyno time in. I hope I can do it all in about an hour or so, but if anyone wants to pitch in for dyno time - you can paypal me
mr_ice15@yahoo.com dyno time is going to be $85/hr. It will be baseline - stock intake with OE tune Stock intake box with carbon filter removed dryflow filter and OE tune Injen Intake AFE Intake box Hoping for Thurday-Saturday to get this done, comments are always welcome. |

okay this is a stupid question but when you say "the intake doesnt hae to be tuned" you.re talking about your OE tune or my AA tune right?

well, to be fair, he didn't say intakes didn't work on turbo cars, only that tuning the intake lengths wasn't as important on a forced induction car vs an NA car.
on an NA car, intake length and diameter can make a huge difference because of resonance. when I had my integra, an CAI (long tube) picked up 9whp on top and 11whp in the midrange where the resonant frequency made for a nice torque bump at around 3400 rpm. a short tube intake made close to the same high end power, but didn't make any more midrange power, and actually lost a bit of low end torque. Taking advantage of resonant frequencies will increase power on NA cars. This is also how the 3 stage IM works on our cars with the disa valves. On a turbo car, you'll see a lot less variation because once the turbo spools up, it's almost all about flow, not resonance or tube length. |

I don't understand all the hate, Axiom understands that the intakes aren't going to make huge gains but he is just trying to find out which one is better than the next. If nothing else it will just be more information. If its not on your dollar then there is no need to worry about it. Props to him.

I was and still am skeptical about the test. However, the thread starter is so adamant about doing a comparison test and it could potentially finally show definitive proof that these intakes vary little from the stock box. I felt it would be beneficial for me to donate to the project. My aFe intake goes out tomorrow to him for testing. Should be interesting.

I think everyone understands that we won't see the same gains as a turbocharged motor, but the gains seen from these motors what I would call more than "reasonable" including a few dynos showing gains over 30WHP with bolt ons, and a member here with over 240whp - contrary to your claims otherwise. (You could have easily checked the link in my signature)
And while you berate people who want to mod their car, essentially telling them that is a pointless endeavor to pursue on our platform, one of your previous post advocated buying a 335 for the same reasons - huh? |
