The bubble release is the most important thing. Do not attempt any installation without it. All wrap vinyl nowadays comes with the bubble release, so if the vinyl you are using for the wrap does not have the bubbles, it is probably not good for your paint.

Nice write up OP, but I do not recommend using water to install. It can be done just as easily without the use of water and minimizes the chance of screwups down the line.

After wrapping, are the mounting points for the roof rail still accessible?

Yes. Apply the wrap and then trim back after installation to expose those rail attachments.

Awesome write up. Wish I had the drive to do this myself... Great job!

Vinyl wrap

Thanks for the video and information. Great stuff here. Also, I just wrapped all that chrome trim around the windows on both sides of the car with black vinyl matte finish (3M) and it came out spot on. Just took several hours and a lot of patience. I tried plasti-dip before, and the results were not that great to be honest. Plasti-dip works great for other applications, absolutely, but the black matte vinyl was spot on.

Next up: 3M Gloss black Vinyl roof-wrap. I think I can do it, after tackling the above.

Thanks again for all the tips and info.

I think I'm going to have to do this to my car... Never use to like the look of it, but it has certainly grown on me! And on my Alpine White Coupe it would look unreal! Anyone have a link to where you can buy some good vinyl to get it done? I've checked amazon but I either find stuff that is waaaaay too big (dimension wise) or that is too small..

I used the 3M VHB 5952F tape and it is amazing. It is 1.1mm thick and has the perfect thickness to fill the small edge around the fin to mount it on the roof perfectly again as it was before removal

Thanks bud. It took a couple hours for the top and then additional time for the rails while watching tv.

Although the wrap did last quite some time, I did eventually paint the roof about 1.5 years ago. Why? I had to replace the rubber trim around my front windshield. In doing so, it pulled up on the vinyl so I either had to redo vinyl or paint. I went paint second time around just because I figured I would never go back to white anyway.

Just for protection. Some do the install dry. I did wet. I didn't want water on the antenna connections or my interior.

Question About the antenna..

Question about reinstalling the antenna after the vinyl is laid. Do you have to cut/remove the vinyl so that the antenna is sticking to the paint or can you just stick it on top of the vinyl with the double-sided tape?

You can just stick it to the vinyl with 3m double stick tape. Did this on a customers 135 yesterday.

Stop using Photobucket! Look at this forum lately and it's all generic "bandwidth exceeded" pics. Use imgur.com or the integrated picture upload feature the forum has. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this thread because the pics don't work.

There's an extension on Google Chrome called Photobucket Hotlink Fix that will display those broken pictures for you. A lot of older threads on other car forums have this issue too. I found out AFTER i wrapped my roof with his written instructions only.
