thanks pete.

next time it rains I'm going to take another pic but have the shutter speed a bit slower, to try give a 'silky' look to the rain as opposed to the grainy look. In my mind it looks hawt, in reality - we'll see.

With my 35mm I'm yet to take it out of the box, but i forgot to buy a UV filter, would you guys ever use a lens without a filter on?

Depends on your thinking
What are your reasons for having a UV filter as opposed to a clear filter such as PRO HD from Hoya. UV will prevent UV from affecting your lens however it will affect the quality compared with a clear chrystal glass which wont

Some people say why are you paying so much for glass then adding another peice of glass on top
However in my opinion i would prefer to buy a filter and put that on the lens as soon as it comes out of the box. That way i now the glass on the lens is clean and just have to make sure the filter is clean. Also prevents any scratches. $80 for a new filter as opposed to $$$$ for a new lens.
Same reason i always put a hood on my lens. Not only does it prevent flare but it protects the glass from the elements, also from knocking. Again would prefer to pay $40 for a new hood if i knock it against a chair rather $2500 for a new lens. Being in wedding photography this has happened many times.

ah ok, I didn't know there was a difference between UV filter and other 'filter's. I guess I just want that thing on the end to protect my lens.

How do I know what size filter to buy?

The link i included is the right size for your 35mm
Usually there will be a symbol on the lens
52mm and a circle with a line through it

EDIT: If you want just to protect your lens then get the one i sent you
I bought mine of them for my 70-200

JB hifi screwed me around with the lens a bit so I'll see if I can score a free one out of them otherwise I'll order the ebay one.

Thanks Anand

I got it from JB hifi. Bought it at the same time as my D90 twin lens kit so not sure how much they charged me for it directly as I negotiated a 'package' type deal... RRP is $399 but you can probably get it for $300? maybe less online.

DigitalRev.com is good.

I use a filter on my Tokina 11-16mm, but only becuase it came free with the lens.

mrtranz... u use 35mm for weddings? i thought the perfect lens combination would be the 24-70mm f/2.8 and a 80mm f/1.8

24-70 is still slightly too narrow
Need someone like 14-24
80mm is better for fullframe
35mm is perfect for a non fx camera as it is equivalent to 50mm on a full frame. and an awesome piece of glass
Currently we use 17-55, 50mm, 70-200 for weddings
70-200 for church and pre-shoot
17-55 for walk-around
50mm for some nice close-up
Fav lens is my Nikkor 70-200 f.28 VRII. Excellent for sports, and portrait

Yeah i think everyone at least wants that in their kit bag
Best lens in my opinion
Clarity AA+
Weight -AA
Bokeh AA++++

We use that for all our pre-shoots on location and basically always on my camera. Only problem is my D300s is not full frame so i need to stand back a bit more than normal. But saving up for a D3s

niceeeee

Personal opinion to have the 335i in focus and the rest blurred.
Just takes a bit away from the effect.
The whole 335i should be the focus of a persons eyes

By no means am i detracting from your photograph. It is a very nice image... Just personlly what i would look for in a photo

I was actually going for the half blurred result because the short depth of field doesn't really work with the rest of the boot to the same effect... but ur concept also works well

Yeh i use Ken Rockwell too for Lens reviews. Although I take everything I read with a grain of salt... not just KR's reviews but all reviews.

To be honest, I actually really like the "citrus" finish. It's more like a purposeful effect than a bad finish.
