With coding, you can turn one few features which dealer does not want you to have depending on configuration of your car.
Also it helps if you are retrofitting few options.

Here are few E60 options:

Hi chaps,

Just bought a Space Grey E92 325i SE, love it so far, this site has been most useful.

I excitedly thumbed through the owners manual to find out how to set up. Few features via the RH control stalk and dash menu, to find many of them don't exist.

Will coding "un-hide" these options, or should I have just done better at school and got one with more options?

I'm particularly after some door lock functions, angel eyes on the ignition and mirrors folding on remote lock.

1- What door functions are you after?
2- Angel eyes can be coded to turn on with ignition. If you have auto-switch, then it should do the trick. If not, coding can do it.
3- Do you have folding mirrors? If yes, it can be coded.

Hi Makkan,

I've got folding mirrors, for the door locks, I'd just like one press drivers door unlock only, two presses both. Or at least I think I do. This might actually be a PITA but I think it's a good idea.
I have got the auto lights. If I leave them in the auto position, will that leave the angel eyes on anyway before it's dark enough for the headlights?

I'll check it today and see what I've got currently.

Any other useful coding ideas?

Good news, folding mirrors with keyfob can be done. Done recently on 2009 E92.

AFAIK, it can be done as well.

Yes, if you leave it in auto position, angel eyes should be on all the time. If not, then it can be coded. Bit tricky and variable with each car, but can be sorted

So many things depending on preferences. Few ideas:
1- Add digital speed on cluster. It helps when you are driving b/w average speed zone. You can monitor your ACTUAL speed with it.
2- Add Chrip sound on locking / unlocking: Although your indicators should give your visual feedback whether your car is locked or not but practically it is not always possible to WATCH those signals when locking your car.
If you have chrip sound on locking / unlocking then you can hear it without concentrating too much on your car and can continue with your family / other task.
3- With default settings, you wiper may stop halfway depending on when you turn off your car. You can code those to go all the way down despite turning ignition off at any time.

There are many other features, but it all depends WHO wants WHAT?

Just had some things coded on my E91 from Frobius - http://www.e90post.com/forums/member.php?u=132885

I had the following,

Hi-Fi stereo coding
Add Chirp sound on locking / unlocking
Add digital speed on speedometer
Complete wiper cycle when turning off the car
Allow windows to go up or down with door interuption
Cleared Automatic trans adaptations

Steve clearly knows his stuff, couldn't be any happier and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Thanks again mate!

Let me know when you are passing by Essex, so that I can look at those.
However if you have any other coder in your region, worth of contacting him.

I am delighted to say that I can offer Remote coding from now on.

If you have all the equipment (cable, softwares and necessary files) but not sure how to code certain things on your car, I can help you with it remotely.

Hi Makkan,

Could do with your help as you seem to know what you are doing!

I have the BM Technic cable for my '56 e90.

Are you able to remotely code with this?

Do i need any specific software?

Not sure what i am doing at the moment but would love just the AEs on as DRLs (at the moment both the xenons and the AEs are on if i set headlights to auto and DRLs on in the idrive menu)

I would also like the mirrors (i have folding) to fold in on locking and fold out on unlocking.

Cheers

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

Unfortunately, BM Technic cable may not do 'trick'.

I can look into getting AEs as DRLS, but for that I will require your module details and files.
I can do folding mirrors.

At this moment I will be able to remotely code those cars, where owners have already installed software and have equipment but may struggle to code their cars. (limited people, mostly forum members)

However my FUTURE plan is to provide full software / coding support.

How will this work?

Few requirements:
1- Forum member should have fully working XP-laptop with at least 20-30GB in C drive.
2- Fully active wireless internet on that laptop (dongle will not do the job). Minimum speed should be 2MB.
3- Forum member should be minimum of 100 miles away from my place to get it coded. I prefer to code cars physically. Coding remotely is bit virtual.

Cautions:
1- No loose USB connections.
2- Laptop should hold good battery. Minimum of 90 minutes.
3- No silly speed internet connections.
4- No poor battery / voltage in clients car.

Procedure:
I will be sending coding cable + software to forum member, who will connect me to his computer remotely. I will be installing all the softwares on his computer and once done, I will ask forum member to connect coding cable to car and establish connection. Once connected, I will code the car.

Whole procedure will be taking 3-5 hours and it is a hard job to do remote coding if forum member is starting from scratch.

When will I be able to start this?
It all depends on interest of forum members. If there are enough, I will work on this project.
However, if not, then I will stick to physical coding bits and bob.

I hope I have explained in detail.

On this subject I'd like to say a big thanks to a few of the users who gave me advice on a CCC issue I had. Makkan, Afsar, Alpina527 and seanblee.

Also a massive thanks to Frobius who despite being up visiting family took a few hours out today to plug my car in to his computer and go through my whole system, checked everything out, troubleshooted my issues and also took time to do a few coding tricks. Much appreciated mate and highly recommended for coding!

I have increased brightness on my DRLs with coding.
Most of coders have done it on xenon DRLs and I have done it on Halogen headlights DRLs.

Took 2 hours to crack it but finally done it. Now there is slight difference in their appearance. I will post photos later.

Be interested to know the process mate? It was something I looked at but never got round to doing a great deal of research on.
