Subbed for fireball videos.
Hope everything gets back to normal soon OP, but not before you get a vid of fireballs. ![]()

Got the JB4 Stg2 in today, and tossed it on real quick during lunch. Took around 30min by the time I disconnected the battery and disassembled the cowling area. Very easy install!
Fired it up and it sounded great. Went through and messed with some settings (steering wheel controls) before heading back to the office. Ran it on Map 5 the whole way. Initial pull was pretty weak feeling, but each time that I would get on it, it felt stronger. So the autotune was definitely working. First impression was that the throttle mapping was very smooth and linear. Cruising in traffic was very smooth as well. The gauge hijacking, and being able to use steering wheel controls on the fly is AWESOME. Loved the fact that I didn't have an OBD cable strung across the steering column. Lol Going to let this thing autotune for a while this evening and see what's up. Feels good so far though. |

Wait so you can install the Jb4 and then it can auto tune itself? You don't have to tune it yourself? I don't understand much about chip and tuning.

It works really well. Of course there are either settings you have control over and can also make a custom map if you wish

If I don't get my custom tune right soon I might just give in and get the Jb4 as well. Probably will keep my cobb since its a v2 and use the backend flash which I think makes it so you don't need the FF wires.
I do feel like I'm getting close to having it all figured out though, seems that timing increases (even small) have a very big effect on actual load and without serious changes to the OTS maps you'll overshoot massively. The one table that had me totally screwed up was the torque effective divisor (fuel) In the stg 2 maps it's set up to divide the torque request by ~.7-.8 in the "richer" AFR range which we were running for the e85. I haven't tested yet but it seems that it would take the base modeled torque limit and divide that by .7 or .8 leaving you with a much higher torque request . Say you had the table set to 450 - Well 450 / .75 = 600.. so really you were requesting 600ft lbs of torque, and unless your load ceiling was ridiculously high you'd overshoot it. I just set the divisor to 1 across the board so 450 = 450 .. I hope my logic is sound because the throttle closures are driving me crazy. |

Ok, so I've had some time to play around with the car.
The result? I love it! So far it's been flawless. No throttle closures, popping, backfiring...ect. Probably put 200 miles on it today with a group of guys on a "cruise" through the twisty roads. They all run muscle cars, but I hang with them 100%. Most important of all, it's consistent. No regrets at all from making the switch to jb4. It's really nice to be able to just hop in the car and go run it hard. Going back to the track again early next month, so I'll know for sure what the power differences are. But.... I can tell you that from 40mph to 130mph, I run dead even beside a bolt on 03 cobra. He has longtubes, sct tuner, intake...typical stuff. And in the corners, he can't shake me either. |

I opted for the Cobb, because of the sketchy reply I got from BMS, on how the JB4 interacts with the PPK, on the N55: would the JB4 net the same results as an N55 w/o the PPK or would it start with the PPK's programing as a base line. Have you taken note of your max PSI, when doing a run in DS mode, on map 5 ? Thanks

Yeah, I do have the BMW performance tune. And honestly, I don't see how the JB4 *couldnt* use that, as it's the base map on the car. Would be similar to doing a back end flash with a Cobb. Not sure if it helps or hurts honestly. My cataloging cable for the jb4 won't be here until tomorrow, but it looks like it's hitting 18psi or so. Power feels about the same as the Cobb to me, but minus all of the negative issues that I was having with the Cobb. |

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with the jb4 so far. I feel that I'm now limited by the stock turbo, so I cannot wait until I get an upgraded unit!
And yeah, that's just rolling into the throttle. Those are stock 255 Bridgestone runflat tires! But they're almost new, so maybe that has something to do with it. The car will break free if I just punch it in 2nd gear though. Those tires have netted me 60' times in the 1.9x region at the track, so they're not horrible. I do plan to upgrade to some wider michelin PSS tires whenever I move up to 19" wheels. |

![]() Remember when you jump on those PSS tires that they will be wider than most others. (ie. 265=275)

So I got some goodies in the mail today. Flex fuel wires and USB cable for the JB4.
Spent some time installing everything and routing the USB cable into the glovebox for a clean install. Everything was pretty easy to do, just a little time consuming. I'd rate it a 3 beer install. Had read in several threads where unplugging the fuel quality sensor was tough. I didn't remove the engine cover, so I couldn't exactly see what I was dealing with. Felt around under there for a couple minutes and found the plug. Pushed in slightly on the connector to relieve tension on the little lock tab, and the lock tab was easy to depress (I think that's the key to doing this). Rest was easy. I also took the time to go ISO since I was in there. Clipped the diode lead on the jb4 board. I had also ordered an OTG cable from amazon for my phone (galaxy s5), in preparation for doing all of this. I had discovered the jb4 android app, and wanted to give it a shot. And I tell you what...... That app is WELL worth the money! It's flawless, and allows you to do everything you want/need right from your phone. No lugging the laptop around. And since my phone is always with me, it just makes sense to use it. First thing I did was to update the jb4 firmware to the latest ISO version. App worked perfectly for that. It took me to the n54tech forum where I selected and downloaded which firmware version i wanted. 5min later, everything was up to date. Also used the app to make the changes needed within the jb4 settings, for the flex fuel wires and the ISO upgrade. No problems there either. Finally got to the point where it was time to fire up the car and see if I did everything right... Lol No problems. Everything was smooth. Used the app to live monitor sensor data from the car. Very fast, felt like it was in real-time (no lag or delay with the phone screen gauges). Driving impressions: It's even smoother than before! Part throttle boosting is where that's most noticeable. Seems like before, there was a slight oscillation of the boost that I could hear through my bms intake. Again, only happened at part throttle acceleration, but now it's completely gone. Full throttle felt great on map 5. Less lag overall, and pulled very strong. I had been reading the thread on another forum about people using Map 6. Decided to punch in some numbers into my own Map 6 (using that sweet app), and give it a go. I had it peaking at 18psi to test with. Power was very smooth and came on strong. I really can't get over how smooth it is with the jb4, especially when compared to the Cobb OTS tunes. One thing that the app does, is automatically start a datalog whenever you go WOT. And that's awesome... It also ends the log a couple seconds after you let off. You can then email the logs directly from your phone, or......wait for it.......... View them on an awesome graph right there on your phone screen! Looks better on there than it does on Datazap. Fantastic feature, as it completely removes the laptop from the picture. Making changes to your map in jb4 literally takes seconds, so you're right back on the road. Can't say enough good things about that darn app. Lol Going to play around with my map 6 tomorrow, as it looks like I still have quite a lot left in it, but it feels really good so far. |

Got to run against a 2013 or 2014 camaro tonight. Had the 1LE package if anyone is familiar with that. Also had an intake and longtube headers/exhaust. 6spd manual, and the 1LE comes with 3.91 gears.
Ran from a 45mph roll, and he pulled on me 1/2 car length by 110mph. Kinda surprised me that his car was that quick. I did have a 350lb passenger though, so I'm sure that wasn't helping.... Just pretty frustrating that the N55 has a TON of low/midrange power, but falls off hard on the top end. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a turbo upgrade like right now, but not sure who to go with, or if I even want to mess with the little stage 1 upgrades. I keep reading that new things are always about to be released, but ain't seeing anything yet! |
