I was able to get the coolant temp readings from the diagnostic menu last weekend.

http://e90.wikifoundry-mobile.com/m/...C+hidden+menus

It seems like it takes the car a much longer time for the coolant temp to reach the +90c in 50f weather we have here than it did with the stock radiator. The water temp stays around 80c or so until 30 mins of driving. So it looks like the core is indeed much more efficient than the stock radiator.

Thanks for reporting back on this.

Question: Wouldn't t-stat operation take the radiator out of play *until* engine was up to temp?

I would imagine so. But my guess is that the T-stat doesn't close off the circulation to the radiator completely. Hard to say... This could be a minor annoyance in the winter, but whatever, I can just tape up the kidney grilles next winter if it bothers me enough.

FYI, just want to pass some message from Ravi at CSF, who kindly supplied me with the unit at a steep discount.

"1) The B-tube technology is 15% more efficient that normal welded tubes. Also - this make the entire unit more lightweight, and is perfect for track guys who care about weight savings. Because of the structure, it keeps the tubes nice and open (even where they are connected to the tank which usually pinches down a little).. This is why the temps stay down so well, the flow and the efficiency are really high..

2) I got 3 or 4 more units of this model in stock.. Maybe you could float my email out to the forum, and let them know that I'm willing to sell what I have in stock at a reduced 1 time offer priced at $450 (with free shipping)..
- I'd like to get more guys on the forums with this radiator, and then let my normal sales channels take over once the word is out.. Let me know if you could help me out with this.
"

So yeah, feel free to contact him "ravidolwani@csfradiators.com" if you are interested.

Great info - thanks again for reporting out.

And damn, that seems like a great price for the rad. I'm conflicted. Just dumped $two grand into LSD and subframe/diff bushing upgrade. Wasn't ready to spend more yet, but that's tempting as hell.

Just to recap - the CSF rad was true plug n play compatible, even with PPK upgrade bits? And so, DIY-able?

About as PNP as it can be, especially for a larger aftermarket radiator.

Should be pretty DIY-able if you have already did the PPK install. I just lack the tools and space to do it at my condo's garage... But an extra pair of hands should speed up the install quite a bit when it comes to removing and reinstalling the radiator from the tight engine bay.

Cloud9blue, I am interested. If you grab a group buy I am in. The 2 rows vice stock single looks very appetizing.

I don't think there will be a group buy, especially with the deal he is offering already. But feel free to contact him yourself.

Funny, the prices on the mishimoto units just dropped to $440, a pretty big drop over just a few months from The original $800. Wonder why

Really shows the profit margins on these things...

I'm planning on moving to a CSF unit as well. Not for better cooling, but because I have 120k miles on my car and its time to do maintenance. That and buying anything from BMW is a rip off when so many other aftermarket vendors do the same thing better.

Just curious, who else has had this installed?

Mine worked great at the track this weekend. Coolant temperature was always a tick under 205F according to the JB4 dash hijack display. Oil temp never went above 250F either with the Dinan oil cooler. But again, I was forced to run stock boost due to misfiring issues I had, and air temp was only around mid 40 to mid 50 F.

Nice! Thanks for the real world results. I'll probably pick one up once my water pump goes.

Those look like great numbers, non-boost notwithstanding.

My car hit maybe 260-70 oil temp - albeit briefly - on my one track outing to date, in warm and humid conditions. PPK tune probably only goes 8-12 psi, and I'm slow, and things still got warm, so still much room/need for cooling improvement.

Seems like this will be a perfect add to my "keep it cool" approach. Just gotta finish paying for latest goodies first. Sheesh.
