Decent camera I guess, motorized mechanism is silent, images without any lens tweaking, not happy about motion detection. Manual says PIR only works for like 16-17ft......with PIR on and Video Detection set at 100% I get false alerts, with PIR on and Video Detection set at 88% it cant seem to detect any motion past 23-25ft and my front door, kitchen, and walk-in closet area past 25ft...about 30-35. Would really like something more reliable in this area, something that can instantly detect front door opening at 30-38ft

Called tech support...guy said that Video Motion Detection is only up to 15ft with PIR enabled 17ft and clip duration is 100 seconds max per motion. (I noticed it detects up to 20ft), Night Vision is up to 26ft....not sure if this is normal for <$200 camera. If it is then I guess I have to preposition the camera closer to door

Using IR on the camera looking outside is useless. The IR reflects against the glass, and even if it did not, that is quite a distance to cover. |

Guys with the hikvision ds-2cd2432f-iw 3mp can you leave it on for months at a time? Does it heat up? I mainly want to use this for when I am traveling overseas. I have the dropcam but that heats up very fast after a few hours

I don't remember if I've downed any of the cameras providing home surveillance but going by the run time counter on my PoE switch, the two 2432 cameras have been up for about 69 days running 24/7 without one hiccup. One 2432 is in an unconditioned 2 car garage and the other is in my finished basement. So this should also tell you the different extremes in operating environment my cameras are exposed to.

I think the Hikvision software is probably OK if you just leave it to record 24/7 and not have to worry about motion detection. Since I do worry about motion detection, I don't use Hikvision software for that.
However, their client for the PC to just watch the cameras is very good, as is their app on the iPhone/iPad. I definitely use Hikvision for that. |

Mine have been running for a while now in the 100F+ Texas heat. Still going strong. So is my PoE switch by the way...

Not much features, but its pretty simple and seems to work so far (tried for an hour maybe). Motion detection works better, camera has better built quality, sound works better, heats up pretty quickly, app is nice, motion history gets recorded as soon as motion detected, but alerts only get sent out every 30 minutes (not sure why because I want to be able to control that), also cant take snapshots As far as subscription, I suppose when I am away I can activate the service for 1 month and unsubscribe when I get back....was told its pretty easy to do on PC (maybe app too) Had a long chat with rep from Piper camera, looks like a nice product too with nice app etc, dont need to subscribe to anything. Problem is when motion is detected it records for 35 seconds, next recording will start if there is another (not motion based) trigger, if you dont have any other triggers then you MUST manually reset the motion trigger. That just made it useless to me. Last edited by Kolyan2k; 07-08-2015 at 12:13 PM.. |

The quality is noticeably better. I'd go with the first option. That way, you should see anyone who enters your spot right off the bat. Also, the harsh light coming through that window might be hard for a lot of cameras.

Pretty sure I will keep Nest. Don't know why it has 2.5 stars in Amazon, Dlink has 3.5 and its much worse EDIT: Still keeping it for now, but not as happy....motion detection seems to be glitchy and customer support is clueless, I expected better from Google. I have pretty much the same problem as with Dlink, motion past 20-25 feet is not detected or not always detected Last edited by Kolyan2k; 07-13-2015 at 06:22 PM.. |

Nest is decent, magnet mount worked really well for me (Ended up mounting on entry door metal frame). App is nice. Unfortunately only paid recording. Camera is only useful for me when I go on vacations, so have to subscribe and unsubscribe each time. I still havent paid though, there seems to be some extended free trail.
