Do any of the other cars that this transmission got sold in come in a manual option?
Like a Jaguar XJ or Hyundai Genesis V8? Would it be possible to take a manual meant for those other cars and shove it into the 335d? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_6HP26_transmission

Potentially, but probably with gear ratios spaced for a gasser. Also, our cars (mine at least) are ZF 6HP28, few if any other cars make torque the way the d does.
Like the Genesis v8 makes like 375tq to the stock d's 425. Many here have much more torque than that even, a nightmare for transmissions. The DCT gearbox can supposedly take the torque, but the computers would be a pain, the ratios would be wrong, and its still not a real manual. |

Hi,
I own a 330d with manual gearbox. As written on the reference the GS6-53BZ can handle 530Nm of torque (53BZ). My car has been remapped at 100K Km, initial torque should have been 500Nm but was in real 550Nm and finished after the remap at 675Nm. After now 45K kith gearbox works as it was the first day and i never changed the clutch at all. So no reinforced clutch at all, maybe better as the clutch is for me the fuse of the gearbox. |

Just to be clear, modified US 335ds are producing over 600 ft-lb/800 Nm of torque, at the rear wheels. That significantly narrows the field of applicable manual transmissions. Does anyone in Europe modify/upgrade the manual transmission found in the 330d?

No problem. The first limit will be the clutch. |

A race team near me run a 330d gearbox in their 135d racecar and have had no problems, they have had a flywheel and clutch made to cope with the extra grunt as they are running 400+bhp and over 600ftlb of torque. I will be doing mine soon and would be amazed if I break it when they have raced in 24hr endurance races and never had a problem.

While finding a transmission rated to 600-650wtq is difficult, there are quite a few 5/6sp BMW transmissions surviving with 700+ Wtq and repeated track abuse. I don't see an E46 M3 6 speed being any more problematic than our auto at higher torque levels. |
