Heh, one of mine finally failed - isn't recognized as a USB device anymore. But I had that cable for like 6 or 7 years, so I think I got $40 worth out of it.

the pedal sensor would definitely throw an error code since it's also a safety device. the throttle sensor, maybe. But I would expect codes.

I'm really leaning towards a timing issue, because the symptoms are slightly different when the AC is on, which I've heard slightly advances the timing to make up for parasitic loss of compressor being engaged. (No idea if that's accurate or not)
