I've been running one on our 335i with 94K miles and 535i with 39K miles for over a year now. On the 335i with full FBO we collect several ounces every 1000 miles. On the 535i with just a JB4 we get an ounce very thousand.
We did the walnut blast on the 335i right before we put on the catch can. We also have the high side BMS catch cans installed. However, they don't catch a whole lot. |

The high side BMS doesn't catch a whole lot. However, it's only really active under heavy throttle. The low side catch can (Mishimoto) collects several ounces of oil every 500 miles. It is very effective.

I’m doing my own version of this, run only one catch can for both high and low load (why should you need more?)
I’m plugging the head ports, and installing the 2jz check valve inline between the throttle housing connection and the catch can, before splitting to the high flow hose which runs to one of the inlets. So I will only have one connection to the valve cover. What are you guys thoughts? |

Sorry, I don't think this is going to work. There are some good discussion of the design issues - Rob Beck (Rob@RBTurbo) has patiently explained them on multiple forums.

I just emptied half a catch can after 800 miles. The RB kit is amazing.

Anyone have any issues cross threading the pcv valve into the valve cover? I’ve tried several times and it looks like this is what’s happening. I put the stock valve back in for now. It looks like I have a VCG leak so I may just wait until I have the cover off to try again.

As long as you're externalizing the PCV as this thread is about, there is no issues with plugging the head ports. I did mine.

Is there a reason no one used cutting fluid to tap, just to not introduce any new oils in the motor? Also what was the best way to catch all the metal shavings, is the greased paper better than just stuffing lint free cloth down the intake ports?

I used a piece of a rag stuffed into the port by the valves and then also used the paper and grease method. You want to use the paper with the grease right under the hole so it catches pretty much any/all shavings that fall out of the hole, you're not guaranteed to catch everything if you only try to use rags. |

Gotcha, so put the greased paper on top of the rag right underneath the hole there. You didn't use any canned air or anything to blow through the hole? That was the other thing I was worried about if shavings would be caught up in the hole and blowing them threw and out even away from the paper if it would be a mess

yeah at the very end after I made sure there was no shavings or anything else that would be blown anywhere I use an air nozzle and blew out the hole, with something in the ports still to block anything falling into/past the valves. Most everything is caught and removed with the grease on the tap and the paper under the hole though.
Also when tapping, pay attention to the angle of the hole and the tap. You'll be tapping at an angle, just make sure the tap is square with the hole. |
